CCC Tournament Preview: Corban Men’s Soccer Primed for Postseason Push

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Corban University men's soccer team heads south to Springfield this week to compete in the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament, and coming off one of the best regular seasons in program history, the Warriors are looking to continue the historic season with more success in the Tournament. Corban, as the No. 2 seed, is set to take on the No. 7 seed, Northwest University, in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Willamalane Complex.

Corban has won two-consecutive CCC Tournaments, and if the Warriors want to win their third-straight, it will undoubtedly be the hardest road yet. In what has proved to be one of the most difficult conferences in the country with 14 total teams spanning Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon, the top-eight programs in the CCC regular-season standings garnered a bid to the CCC Tournament. In a tournament that puts eight high-quality opponents against one another, seemingly any team on any given day could win.

Corban's quarterfinal opponent, Northwest, is a familiar opponent, as not only did the Warriors and Eagles play just a couple of weeks ago in the final weekend of the 2015 regular season, but Corban and Northwest met up in the 2014 CCC Tournament Final. This season, Corban got the best of Northwest via a 2-1 triumph on October 30 in Kirkland, while in last year's 2014 CCC Tournament Final, the Warriors won in dramatic fashion in overtime, 2-1, booking its ticket to the NAIA National Championships.

In 2015, Northwest has accumulated a 10-8 overall record, including an 8-5 mark in CCC action. After a tough start to the year with two-straight losses against high-quality opponents in Biola and Vanguard, both of which are in the NAIA Top-25, the Eagles really turned it on late in the season, registering a number of big wins, including over the University of Great Falls on the road, 1-0. The Eagles are led by Kyle Zimmerman who has found the back of the net on 10 occasions while also dishing out two assists. In addition, Jacob Weaver has provided seven goals for Northwest while notching a team-best five assists.

Corban, owning a 16-2 overall record thus far in 2015, has been ranked in the NAIA Top-25 all season long. The Warriors recorded an 11-2 mark in CCC play, with big wins over Great Falls on Carroll on the road, as well as Evergreen during the same weekend they beat Northwest. Corban is led by senior forward Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica) with seven goals and 18 assists. On top of Dinnall's creative playmaking ability, junior midfielder Armando Guevara (Salem, Ore.) has provided the spark in the midfield that has produced a number of goal-scoring chances, and he has scored six goals himself with three assists. Moreover, freshman forward Nic Farr (Turner, Ore.) has found the back of the net on six occasions this year for the Navy and Gold. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Farr (Turner, Ore.) ranks second in the NAIA with a goals-against-average 0.30. As a team, the Warriors rank No. 1 overall in goals-against-average at a 0.29 mark.

If you can't make it to Wednesday's match, be sure to follow along via live stats.
