Records Fall as Warrior Track & Field Competes at John Knight Twilight Meet

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Corban University track & field teams took their talents to Western Oregon University on Friday for the John Knight Twilight Meet, and thanks to a number of great performances, the Warriors shattered previous meet records and registered season-best marks while excelling in all facets at the meet.

Results

For the Warrior men, the 4x100 Relay quartet of senior Brett Johnson (Bellingham, Wash.), senior Jacob Ybarra (Boise, Idaho), freshman Nathan Martin (Turner, Ore.), and sophomore Michael Trofimchik (Salem, Ore.) remained undefeated on the year and clocked an NAIA 'B' standard time of 41.99 seconds, setting the new standard for the meet and resetting the meet record in the process. The mark was also the best time of the season for the Navy and Gold.

Trofimchik later uncorked a season-best time of 48.63 seconds in the 400 Meters, resetting the meet's record and finishing in first place ahead of senior teammate Nathan Swanson (Newberg, Ore.) who took second with a time of 48.79 seconds.

Johnson performed well in the 100 Meters for Corban, clocking a third-place time of 11.33 seconds, while Martin took fifth with a time of 11.34 seconds.

In the 400 Hurdles, rookie Christian Bohuslavizki (Santa Margarita, Calif.) continued his strong season with Corban, crossing the finish line in 56.74 seconds.

Closing out the evening on the track, the foursome of Amadi Amaitsa (Keizer, Ore.), Swanson, Johnson, and Trofimchik combined for a winning time in the 4x400 Relay, finishing in a time of 3:17.43.

In the field events, Ybarra won the Triple Jump with a season-best distance of 42' 11.75".

In the Shot Put, junior Dane Walker (Anchorage, Alaska) continued his strong third season with the Warriors, launching a career-best throw of 45' 3.75" for ninth place, currently ranking as the seventh-best throw in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC).

On the women's side in the 100 Hurdles, junior Chelsea Reifschneider (Sisters, Ore.) clocked a blistering season-best mark of 15.57 seconds for fifth place at the meet. Fellow junior Cecilee Russell (Hillsboro, Ore.) recorded another NAIA 'B' standard time, continuing to add to her impressive resume from the 2015 season, crossing the finish line in the 400 Hurdles in a third-place time of 1:04.20. Reifscheider finished not far behind with another season-best time of 1:05.60 in sixth place.

Against tough competition in the High Jump, junior Sarah Taylor (Bend, Ore.) cleared a fourth-place height of 5' 1".

Elsewhere in the field events, sophomore Katie Udell (Hanford, Calif.) cleared a second-place height in the Pole Vault of 9' 0.25". In the Long Jump, sophomore Emma Berg (Port Orchard, Wash.) and junior Alli Ehrhardt (Rogue River, Ore.) both performed well, with Berg taking 12th with a season-best distance of 16' 3.25", while Ehrhardt finished in 16th with a career-best jump of 15' 9".

Finally, in the Javelin, freshman Renee Inscore (Dayville, Ore.) launched a career-best throw of 120' 7". The mark was good enough for seventh at the meet and is Corban's best mark of the year.

"We had a great Meet at WOU, winning a number of events," said head coach Norm Berney. "Wins in the 4x400, Triple Jump, and in the 4x100 and the 400 really made a great night for the Warriors. Several PR's were recorded with Dane Walker adding close to two feet onto his Shot Put Personal Best, competing against National Contenders and D1 Athletes.  Our lady Javelin Throwers Renee Inscore and Kelsey Wright had great efforts with PR's for the year. Also, Katie Udell took second in the Pole Vault. We are really looking forward to next week when we put Jacob Ybarra back on the 4x400 Relay (we rested him tonight) for the Oregon Relays. Also, we have close to 40 people competing at Lewis and Clark on the same day."

Corban competes again at the Oregon Relays and the Lewis & Clark Invite on Saturday, April 18.
