GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Corban University men's track & field team continued to reset the school record books, uncorking a time of 41.11 seconds in the 4x100 Relay prelims on Thursday at the 2015 NAIA Track & Field Championships.
While the Warriors set the new school record, it was not enough to qualify the foursome for the event finals, as the quartet of senior Brett Johnson (Bellingham, Wash.), senior Jacob Ybarra (Boise, Idaho), freshman Nathan Martin (Turner, Ore.), and sophomore Michael Trofimchik (Salem, Ore.) came up just short and placed 12th overall amongst the most competitive field in the last 10 years. The time of 41.11 seconds would have been a qualifying time for the event finals in each of the last 10 years, but this year with the extremely deep and talented group of teams, the Warriors finished 12th best out of 24 total foursomes.

The time for Corban bested its meet-record time at the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships that it clocked just a couple of weeks ago of 41.43. In addition, Corban was once again the highest-finishing CCC team in the event. Moreover, Corban was ranked 15th in the NAIA headed into the event, improving three spots on its seeding.

"The men's 4x100 Relay had an outstanding performance, and their time would compare favorably to any of the NAIA, D2, and D3 schools in the Northwest," said head coach Norm Berney. "This is by far the best 4x100 Relay I have been associated with in my years of coaching track. To take 0.32 seconds off of their time coming in is an amazing feat, and if you consider that the northwest is not known for exceptional sprinters, this time even stands out more."
The Warrior men continue to compete tomorrow at the NAIA Championships in the 400 Meters, Long Jump, and 4x400 Relay.
