Corban Track & Field Wins Seven Events and Sets Records at Rich Allen Classic

SALEM, Ore. - The Corban University track & field teams racked up seven event wins and set a pair of school records on Saturday at the Rich Allen Classic, continuing to build on yet another record-breaking season.

RESULTS

Junior Crystal Lynch (Ocean Shores, Wash.) set the school record in the Discus, launching a throw of 40.5m in the event en route to winning the Discus at the meet. On top of that performance, she took fourth overall in the Shot Put with a toss of 11.44m.

Also setting a school record was senior Kelsey Wright (Beaverton, Ore.) in the Hammer Throw, as she launched the new program record throw of 40.16m, taking second overall at the meet.

Remaining in the throwing events, junior Kelly Cruise (Salem, Ore.) needed just two throws to win the Javelin, hurling a first-place throw of 39.68m, not far off her own school record that she set earlier in the year. Cruise still ranks in the top-10 in the NAIA for the Javelin, currently sitting at No. 9 overall in the country with her record-breaking throw.

Another first-place finish for the Warrior women came in the 4x400 Relay, as the quartet of freshman Kristi Childers (Milton-Freewater, Ore.), freshman Lindsay Asplund (Battle Ground, Wash.), senior Chelsea Petersen (Sisters, Ore.), and senior Cecilee Russell (Hillsboro, Ore.) combined for a season-best time of 3:59.56, currently ranking No. 2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) in the event.

Winning the 5000 Meters at the meet was senior Lexi Mitzel (Salem, Ore.), as she pulled away from the entire field towards the end of the race, winning comfortably with a time of 18:21.30.

Corban's other winning marks on the day came in the men's 4x400 Relay and the men's Triple Jump.

The foursome of sophomore Christian Bohuslavizki (Santa Margarita, Calif.), sophomore Nathan Martin (Turner, Ore.), freshman Michael Stevens (Grangeville, Idaho), and junior Amadi Amaitsa (Keizer, Ore.) combined for the winning time in the 4x400 Relay, clocking a mark of 3:23.58.

Stevens went on to win the Triple Jump, registering a distance of 13.04m to take first overall.

Capping off the winning performances, Bohuslavizki won the 400 Hurdles with a time of 56.64 seconds.

Martin showed off his speed in the 200 Meters for the Warrior men, crossing the finish line in third place with a time of 22.05 seconds. He also ran well in the 110 Hurdles, registering a time of 15.71 seconds for third place.

Amaitsa took third overall in the 800 Meters, finishing in a time of 1:57.63.

Senior Dane Walker (Anchorage, Alaska) showed well for the Warrior men in the throws, taking third in the Shot Put (13.48m) and fourth in the Discus (41.28m).

One final key performance on the day for the Corban men was sophomore Drew Larabee (Beaverton, Ore.), as he gutted on a conference-qualifying time of 10:29.93 in the Steeplechase, taking ninth overall at the meet.

For the Warrior women, senior Sarah Taylor (Bend, Ore.) and Asplund both cleared a height of 1.54m in the High Jump to take third, while Russell placed second in the 400 Hurdles. Additionally Asplund placed fifth overall in the Pole Vault, nearly equaling her school record mark with a clearing height of 3.26m.

Finally, freshman Emily Rose (Turner, Ore.) took third overall in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9.75m for the Warriors.

"It was a great day weather wise and our Corban athletes really responded with PRs and solid performances," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "The Decathlon and Heptathlon athletes had their final meet before the CCC Multi-Event Championships at SOU and their improvement in several events shows that they are ready to compete at that level. The competition was intense, but our seven first-place finishes are a positive sign as we prepare for the track & field championships in Hermiston in mid may."

Corban returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Clackamas Invite and the Oregon Relays. The CCC Multi-Event Championships are then set to take place on April 21-22.
