McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Corban University junior standout Luke Jackson (Milwaukie, Ore.) highlighted Saturday's Warrior track & field performances as he set a new school record in the Pole Vault at the Jen Boyman Invite, clearing a height higher than any Warrior track & field athlete had ever cleared before. On top of his performance, many other Warriors performed well while building towards the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships (CCC) that are just a little over a month away.
RESULTS
Jackson cleared a height of 14' 4.5", setting the new school record in the process. At the meet, he tied for third place overall and looks to be well on track to finish strong and perform well at the CCC Championships.
"Luke Jackson broke our school record and had a fantastic day on the pole vault," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "He has really overcome some injuries and really done a great job for us this year."
On top of Jackson's record-setting performance on the men's side, sophomore standout Nathan Martin (Turner, Ore.) also performed well, clocking a fifth-place time in the 100 Meters (11.25 seconds) and a sixth-place mark in the 200 Meters (22.51 seconds).
In the Hurdles freshman Michael Stevens (Grangeville, Idaho) excelled, taking third in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 15.90 seconds, the fifth fastest time in school history. He then took seventh overall in the 400 Hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 58.62 seconds.
In the field events, freshman Asa Flanagan placed eighth overall in the Triple Jump with a distance of 42' 2", while senior Dane Walker (Anchorage, Alaska) tossed an eighth-place throw in the Discus (131' 6").
Continuing to enjoy her senior year for the Warrior women on Saturday was Sarah Taylor (Bend, Ore.), as she tied for first overall in the High Jump, clearing a height of 5' 2.25".
Also placing high was fellow senior Alli Ehrhardt (Rogue, River, Ore.), as Ehrhardt took third overall in the Triple Jump with a distance of 33' 9.5".
The 4x400 Relay quartet of senior Chelsea Petersen (Sisters, Ore.), freshman Lindsay Asplund (Battle Ground, Wash.), Taylor, and senior Cecilee Russell (Hillsboro, Ore.) placed third overall with a season-best time of 4:03.28 in the long relay.
"Sarah Taylor tied for first in the high Jump and ran on the 4x400 team, helping our team run our fastest time of the year," said Berney, "so that was very impressive."
Asplund also performed well in the Pole Vault, tying her school-record mark of 10' 9" in the event to take fourth overall at the meet.
Russell ran in the open 400 Meters for the Warriors, clocking a fifth-place time of 58.36 seconds, while Petersen finished in fourth in the 100 Hurdles (15.91 seconds) and in fifth in the 400 Hurdles (1:05.77). Additionally, freshman Kristi Childers (Milton-Freewater, Ore.) finished in sixth overall in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 16.24 seconds.
Rounding out Corban's strong performances on the day was junior Crystal Lynch (Ocean Shores, Wash.) as she took third in the Discus (125' 6") and fifth overall in the Shot Put (38' 4.25"). Both were career-best marks.
"We were very happy to see Crystal Lynch throw so well today with a pair of PRs," said Berney. "Overall people really competed hard and we were happy with the results."
Corban returns to action next Saturday at the Rich Allen Classic in Newberg. The meet is set to take place at George Fox University beginning at 10 a.m.
