ASHLAND, Ore. – The Corban University track & field teams continued to impress at the Raider Invite on Friday and Saturday, recording season-best marks and more school records as the Warriors built some serious momentum heading into the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships.
RESULTS
On the women's side, once again it was junior Kelly Cruise (Salem, Ore.) who shined, improving on her school-record throw in the Javelin from earlier in the season with a distance of 143' 1", taking second overall at the meet. The mark also improved her NAIA 'A' standard distance as she builds towards the NAIA National Championships.
Also hitting a lifetime PR was sophomore Adrianna Curteman (Albany, Ore.), as she uncorked a distance of 17' 3.25" in the Long Jump to take fourth overall. For Curteman, it was a career-best jump by nearly a foot.
On the men's side as a highlight of the meet, it was sophomore Nathan Martin (Turner, Ore.) that clocked a career-best time in the 200 Meters, crossing the finish line in second place with a mark of 21.89 seconds, not far off the school record. Five minutes after recording that mark, he uncorked a blistering time in the 110 Hurdles of 15.26 seconds to take second overall at the meet, just missing out on setting a school record in the event as well. Rounding out his standout day, Martin placed fifth overall in the 100 Meters with a time of 11.08 seconds.
On top of Martin's performances for the Warrior men, junior Timothy Yee (Calexico, Calif.) registered a lifetime PR in the Triple Jump, jumping a distance of 43' 7.25".
Staying on the men's side, sophomore Christian Bohuslavizki (Santa Margarita, Calif.) crossed the finish line in second place in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 55.52 seconds, coming close to a career-best mark.
Senior Kelsey Wright (Beaverton, Ore.) set a new school record in the Hammer Throw, besting her previous school record slightly with a toss of 134' 2", taking third overall at the meet. Over in the Discus, junior Crystal Lynch (Ocean Shores, Wash.) placed second overall with a throw of 127' 4" for the Warrior women. Lynch also registered a career-best mark in the Shot Put with a distance of 39' 4.5" in the prelims while eventually taking fourth in the finals.
Winning the 400 Meters for the Warrior women was senior Cecilee Russell (Hillsboro, Ore.), as she clocked a time of 58.28 seconds. Also winning an event for the Warriors was freshman Elizabeth Oosterhout (Tahoma, Wash.), as she crossed the finish line in a first place time of 12:48.60 in the Steeplechase.
Elsewhere, freshman Kristi Childers (Milton-Freewater, Ore.) took second overall in the 200 Meters with a career-best time of 25.80 seconds, just 0.06 seconds off of the school record. Additionally, senior Sarah Taylor (Bend, Ore.) tied for second in the High Jump, clearing a height of 5' 2.5".
Capping off all of the great performances on the women's side was the 4x400 quartet of Childers, Taylor, senior Chelsea Petersen (Sisters, Ore.), and Russell, as they combined for a winning time of 4:04.12.
"What a fantastic meet for most all of our athletes," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "Adrianna Curteman and Kelly Cruise really stood out on the women's side with lifetime PRs, while Nathan Martin did it all on the men's side. Everyone represented our school well with great attitudes and great performances, and we are looking forward to what should be an exciting CCC Championships that is not far away."
Corban will compete once more with select athletes on April 29-30 at the OSU High Performance Meet before then competing at the CCC Championships on May 13-14.
