SALEM, Ore. – Over the course of the next two weeks, CorbanWarriors.com will unveil its second-annual online series of the best stories from Corban University Athletics from the 2015-16 campaign. In what was a banner year for Warrior athletics that saw a number of teams and individuals register championship performances, earn All-America honors, and garner the highest accolades both on the field and in the classroom, it truly was a year to remember for Corban.
During the 2015-16 school year, Corban collected five Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Athletes of the Year (or other similar honors) across all sports. Two of those came from the men's soccer team, two from the volleyball team, and one from the softball team.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Farr (Turner, Ore.) was named the CCC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year after a standout season between the pipes, while junior forward Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica) was named the CCC Men's Soccer Player of the Year following his stellar year up front for the Warriors. Farr completed the best year a Corban soccer goalkeeper had ever had, setting a new program record with a goals-against-average of 0.51 to rank second overall in the NAIA, helping the team rack up a total of 14 shutouts.
At the other end of the field, Dinnall was a force up top for Corban, dishing out 19 assists to lead the NAIA and set a new program record. He also showed he had the finishing touch, scoring nine goals for a team-best 37 points during the record-setting campaign.
Warrior Volleyball's sophomore libero Haley Wells (Albany, Ore.) garnered CCC Libero of the Year honors for Corban following her historic year as Corban's primary libero. While averaging 5.59 digs per set with 525 total digs on the year, she ranked first overall in the CCC by a large margin. Her outstanding year also ranked her third in the all-time Warrior record books in both total digs and digs/set for a single season.
Corban's freshman setter Madison McLain (Albany, Ore.) also experienced great success in her first year with the Warriors, collecting CCC Freshman of the Year honors for her phenomenal play on the court. McLain ranked fourth on Corban's all-time list for single season assists with 1,043, and while averaging 11.10 assists per set, she also registered 24 service aces and 191 digs, showing her versatility all year long.
Corban's final 'Player of the Year' in what was a banner year for CCC accolades for the Warriors came from the softball field where senior pitcher Jessica Holsinger (Eagle, Idaho) was tabbed the CCC Pitcher of the Year. Holsinger set a new school record with 18 wins in 2016 to go with her team-leading 2.28 ERA. Over the course of the campaign, she totaled 138 total strikeouts and registered an opponents' batting average of .221.
