SALEM, Ore. – With Robert Swoboda clocking the second-fastest time ever on the Willamette course by a Corban University runner, the Warrior men's cross country team shined on Saturday at the Willamette Invite, taking ninth overall while finishing ahead of teams receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' poll.

RESULTS

"The men's team had an outstanding day," said Corban head coach Norm Berney," considering we have not had one of our top runners in the lineup since last year. Our team is depending on freshmen and some individuals that do not have a lot of experience at the varsity level. They stepped up to the challenge today and upset a team receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' poll. We believe this bodes well for the men and as we get more experience, this team will finish well at the conference championships."

As a team, the Warriors took ninth, just edging out Carroll College (Mont.) who is currently receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' poll. In addition, the Warriors were only 11 seconds behind Oregon Tech, a team which is ranked No. 23 in the top-25 poll.

Swoboda finished in a blistering time of 25:17.2 in 20^th overall, while Zane West also ran extremely well, crossing the finish line in a mark of 25:47.5. Ruben Salvador-Benavides came in at 26:03, while Drew Larabee finished in a mark of 27:30.1. Additionally, Jonathan Griffes took 90^th overall with a time of 28:13.3.

Corban returns to the course in a couple of weeks at the Wes Cook Invite on October 14.
