MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – While running in his first-career 10k race, Corban Track & Field's Craig Boekenoogen went ahead and decided to set a school record and clock an NAIA 'B' standard time on Friday evening at the Linfield Ice Breaker.
Boekenoogen, running against stiff NCAA Division I and Division III competition, clocked the school-record time of 31:27 in the 10k-event in a cold and rainy race, finishing in fifth overall. His time was not far off of the NAIA 'A' standard time, coming in as an NAIA 'B' standard mark.
Zach Steele, who already qualified for nationals in the Marathon for the Warriors earlier this season, ran a conference-qualifying time on Friday night, finishing in a mark of 32:46.
"Both Craig and Zach ran great races against D1 and D3 runners," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "The weather was cold and both runners qualified for the conference championships in their first track meet of the season. Zach had a side-ache in the middle of the race but recovered and had a great finish. Craig broke Corban's 10k school record in his first attempt at that distance, so it was a great night for Corban runners."
The remainder of the Warrior track & field athletes jump into action on Saturday when they travel across town to Willamette University for the Willamette Opener. Events are set to begin at 10 a.m.
