Corban’s Nate Martin Qualifies for Nationals in 110m Hurdles with School Record

SALEM, Ore. – Corban University senior Nathan Martin continued his standout season, making another dent in the Warrior track & field record books on Saturday, and at the Willamette Invite, he made history with an NAIA 'A' standard time of 14.63 seconds in the 110m Hurdles, qualifying automatically for the NAIA National Championships.

RESULTS

"It was a great day at Willamette in spite of cold and rainy conditions," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "Nathan Martin was a National 'A' qualifier in the 110m Hurdles and ran a great 200 Meters for two solid wins. Our women's 4x100 Relay took second overall with a time that was just 0.07 seconds off of our school record. In addition, Lindsay Asplund ran an NAIA 'B' qualifying time in the 400m Hurdles, and several of our athletes had PR's against NCAA Athletes. Each meet we have continued to improve, and we are looking forward to an exciting second half of the season."

Not only was Martin's time an NAIA 'A' standard mark, but it also shattered the previous school record in the event. In the race itself, Martin blew away the competition, winning by nearly a full second. In addition, it is currently the seventh-fastest time right now in the NAIA in that event.

On top of that performance, Martin turned in a winning race in the 200 Meters, clocking a time of 22.22 seconds for another first-place finish.

On the women's side in the wet and cold conditions, Lindsay Asplund shined with an NAIA 'B' qualifying time of 1:04.51 in the 400m Hurdles. The mark was the fastest NAIA time at the meet, and she placed fifth overall in the race. Moreover, it ranks as the fourth-fastest time currently in the event in the NAIA on the year.

In the relay events, the 4x100 Relay squad for the Warrior women almost broke the school record, registering a time of 48.77 seconds, continuing to improve and march towards that school-record mark.

Hannah Clarizio performed well in the 3000m Steeplechase, clocking a career-best mark of 11:42.90, taking fifth overall in the race and is the fourth-fastest time in the event in program history. Moreover, in the throws, Jordan Woodvine continued to impress, moving up to second on the all-time Corban list with a toss of 134' 3" in the Hammer Throw. For Woodvine, it is only her third-ever time throwing the Hammer at an official meet, and she has improved by more than 10 feet thus far at each meet.

For the Warrior track & field squad, Michael Schmidt and Jason Bracken compete this week at the Pacific Decathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday.
