LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office announced on Monday that two Corban University student-athletes have been named conference athletes of the week. Warrior baseball standout Ben Ross, and Corban men's track & field decathlete Michael Schmidt both collected the Athlete of the Week plaudits in their respective sports.

For both Ross and Schmidt, it marks their first-career Conference Athlete of the Week honors in their respective sports.

"I couldn't be happier for Ben," said Corban baseball head coach Derek Legg. "He has been working hard all year to consistently repeat his at-bats, and it came together for him this weekend. He did his job this weekend, and that is all I ask my guys to do."

While racking up five hits, blasting three home runs, and scoring five runs, Ross led the Warrior baseball squad to a non-conference series win over Whitman College (Wash.). Ross's three long balls led the Warriors offensively in the category over the weekend, and he also racked up five RBI in the dominating performances at the dish.

On the track, Schmidt showed the type of potential he has, winning three events on Saturday at the Willamette-Opener. After uncorking a winning 400 Meters time of 49.61 seconds, he followed that up by winning the 110m Hurdles in a time of 15.93 seconds. Schmidt went on to win the High Jump, clearing a height of 6' 0", and he then took third overall in the Long Jump with a distance of 19' 10 ¼".

"Michael has continued to show us his unlimited potential, and we believe he is just beginning to show us what the future holds for him in the Decathlon," said Corban track & field head coach Norm Berney. "God willing, his development will continue, and we feel he could compete at the national and international level if he continues the work ethic he has dedicated himself to these past two years at Corban."

CCC Sports Information Directors nominate and vote upon CCC Athletes of the Week.

The Warrior baseball squad is back in action at home this week for a conference series against the University of British Columbia, while the Warrior track & field team takes to the road for the Mt. Hood Invitational in Gresham, Ore. on Saturday.
