LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office announced on Monday that two Corban University student-athletes garnered CCC Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts over the weekend. Warrior softball pitcher Sabrina Boyd was named the CCC Pitcher of the Week, while Warrior men's track & field standout Jason Bracken was tabbed the CCC Field Athlete of the Week.
CCC Sports Information Directors nominate and vote upon CCC Athletes of the Week.
Boyd proved dominant for the Warriors in the circle, getting Corban back to its winning ways with a pair of wins against the University of Providence. While throwing a pair of complete games, she dispersed just five total hits over the course of 11 innings, striking out 11 Argo batters and allowing no runs.
"Sabrina had two more great outings this week," said Corban softball head coach Abigail Farler. "She led our team well and shut down the opponents' offensive production. Sabrina is constantly looking for ways to improve her game and be the best pitcher she can be, and I think her performances show that!"
Bracken showed just how good he can be for the Warrior track & field team over the weekend, as he uncorked a school-record throw of 155' 10" in the Discus, surpassing former teammate Dane Walker's CCC Championship throw from a couple of years ago in the process. It hit the NAIA 'B' standard, and he finished only behind NCAA Division II competitors at the John Knight Twilight Meet.
"Jason continues his outstanding performances with his Discus throw last weekend," said Corban head track & field coach Norm Berney. "He broke our school record that was set by our conference champion (Dane Walker), and he "B" qualified for the national meet in Alabama. His dedication and work ethic exemplify what can happen in multiple events if you commit to getting better every week."
The Warrior softball team is on the road this week at the College of Idaho, while the Warrior track & field team is off until the Decathletes compete at the upcoming CCC Multi-Event Championships next week in Ashland.
