Corban Track & Field Competes at Day One of NAIA Track & Field Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. – All 10 of the Corban University track & field athletes competed on day one of the NAIA Track & Field Championships on Thursday, with the Warriors showing well and setting themselves up for success on day two.

RESULTS

"Our athletes competed well, but our top-two seeds in the running events were not able to put out their best efforts after a severe ankle sprain and strep throat," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "Tomorrow, Nathan Martin has a good chance to advance in the 110m Hurdles, and the Decathlon should be exciting with expected high scores by our athletes in the five contested events."

Michael Schmidt and Jason Bracken both performed well in the Decathlon, with Schmidt ranking No. 6 overall after day one, while Bracken ranks No. 10. Schmidt finished the day strong in the 400 Meters, scoring big points in the event with a blistering time of 49.08 seconds. Bracken showed best in the Shot Put with a toss of 12.84m, scoring the most points of anyone in the event. In addition, Reagan Shira sits in 14th place overall for the Warriors in the Decathlon.

Elsewhere for the Warriors, competing in her first-ever national championship event, Sarah Falardeau finished in 13th overall in the Javelin with a toss of 123' 7".

In the women's 4x100m Relay, the foursome combo of Mackenzie Wilson, Selina Newingham, Leah McClain, and Kristi Childers clocked their second-fastest time of the year at 48.22 seconds, placing 19th overall against the highly-talented field of teams.

In the 400m Hurdles, Lindsay Asplund crossed the finish line in a mark of 1:03.51 for 14th best overall, while Childers placed 26th with a time of 1:07.89.

In the men's 200 Meters, Nate Martin placed 21st overall with a mark of 21.77 seconds.

Martin is back at it on Friday with prelims for the 110m Hurdles, while Shira, Bracken, and Schmidt will all continue to compete for the Warriors, looking to finish the Decathlon strong.
