LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office announced on Thursday morning that Corban University's Danny Day has been named the CCC Sports Information Director of the Year. The award marks the second time Day has received the honor during his four years at the helm of Corban athletic communications.
The annual award is voted on by the sports information directors of the CCC, recognizing outstanding work in promotion, work with the CCC and NAIA Championship events, publicity, and marketing efforts.
"This is truly an honor and very humbling to be recognized among such a great group of Sports Information Directors that we have here in the CCC," said Day. "I would not be able to do what I do without the incredible support from my wife, Tori, and all of our amazing athletic communications team here at Corban – it really is a total team effort to get the job done! At the end of the day, it is such a rewarding job to get to work with the amazing student-athletes and staff here at Corban as we continue to serve Jesus in everything we do."
Day, who is currently serving as Assistant Athletic Director (External Operations), also earned CCC Sports Information Director of the Year honors in 2015-16. He has directed and managed all of the athletic department's promotions, marketing, and game management during the 2017-18 campaign. Under his guidance, www.CorbanWarriors.com was named the #2 athletic website in the NAIA at the 2017 CoSIDA Convention, making it the only website in the NAIA to be ranked in the top-4 in each of the past three years.
"From day one when Danny started at Corban several years ago, everyone could see he was special," said Corban University President Sheldon Nord. "He is hard-working, talented, a team player, and is exceptionally deserving of any recognition he receives. Those closest to him know he is the very best at what he does, and we are fortunate to have him on the team at Corban."
As the head of Corban's athletic communications, Day has garnered a reputation across both the CCC and the NAIA for his innovative, dynamic, and pioneering use of social media, photography/videography, and writing. His exceptional work in showcasing Corban University and its student-athletes has led to an impressive 20 percent growth over the last 12 months in views on the athletic website (from 1.5 million views to 1.8 million views), and a significant increase in followers on the Warriors' social media accounts.
During the 2017-18 year, Day served in a variety of integral roles. He oversaw all of the department's press releases and Warrior TV broadcasts, while also serving as the primary statistician for Warrior home games and the public address announcer and play-by-play broadcaster for numerous events. In addition, Day spearheaded the organization, coordination, and implementation of the 2017 CCC Volleyball Tournament and banquet, as well as the Second Annual Golden Warrior Awards.
"Congratulations to Danny Day on his selection as the Cascade Conference Sports Information Director of the Year," stated CCC Commissioner Rob Cashell. "The high praise from his peers reflects Danny's innovative work and dedication to Corban Athletics, as well as the CCC and the NAIA."
While serving on the NAIA-Sports Information Directors of America (SIDA) Board of Directors during the 2017-18 school year, Day acted as the 'New Media' committee chair for the NAIA-SIDA Continuing Education series, where he organized and moderated video webinars that brought together top sports information directors across the country to discuss cutting-edge athletic communication practices. Day will also serve on a panel at this year's CoSIDA Convention in Washington, D.C.
As the CCC's winner of the Sports Information Director of the Year honor, Day will now represent the CCC as the conference's nomination for the NAIA National SID of the Year award.
