Boekenoogen Breaks 1500m School Record for Corban Track at Rich Allen Classic

NEWBERG, Ore. – Another event. Another school record. Craig Boekenoogen is having quite the senior season on the track for the Corban University track & field team, and on Saturday at the Rich Allen Classic at George Fox University, he broke a school record that had been in place for eight years in the 1500 Meters, highlighting a great all-around day for the Warriors.

RESULTS

"It was a great day for track at George Fox and our teams performed well even without a few of our top athletes that had academic commitments or injuries," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "On the men's side, Craig Boekenoogen provided the highlight, breaking the 1500 Meters Record, while on the women's side, it was Hannah Clarizio that came through with a great effort in the Steeplechase for her first win for Corban in that event. Overall with a number of standout performances from around the track & field events, it was a great day."

Boekenoogen broke the 1500 Meters record that was set back in 2009 by Caleb Goins at 3:59.52, as on Saturday, Boekenoogen crossed the finish line in a time of 3:58.22. Currently, the mark is the fastest in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) with just over a month left until the CCC Championships. Also in the distance events, Zach Steele won the 5000 Meters, dominating the competition with a time of 15:45.86.

Elsewhere on the track, Reagan Shira placed second in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 16.07 seconds and then showed he can compete well in the 400 Hurdles as well, taking third with a mark of 58.46 seconds. In the 100 Meters, Kemar Prince shined for the Warriors with his career-best time of 11.14 seconds to take fourth overall.

In the field events, Zachary Matteson shined in the Pole Vault, placing second overall with a career-best height of 14' 1.75". In addition, Asa Flanagan recorded a career-best distance of 43' 1.75" in the Triple Jump to take home top honors in the event.

In the Relays, the Warriors used a variety of different individuals to combine for a pair of event wins, downing the rest of the competition at the meet.

For the Warrior women, Hannah Clarizio clocked a winning time in the 3000m Steeplechase, crossing the finish line in a mark of 11:59.40. In the 400 Hurdles, Lindsay Asplund recorded a second-place time of 1:05.82, marking a career-best in that event. Kristi Childers was not far behind her in that event in third place (1:07.13) as both build towards the CCC Championships.

In the field events, Naphtali Ward showed real potential in the High Jump, as while taking second place with a clearing height of 5' 0.5", she had multiple other jumps at higher heights that barely missed. Shelby Jenkins competed well for Corban in the Triple Jump, launching herself a distance of 34' 5.75" to place second overall in the event. For Jenkins, it was a career-best distance.

In the Shot Put, Corban's Crystal Lynch placed second overall with a toss of 37' 5.5", while in the Javelin, Renee Inscore registered a season-best throw of 123' 4.25". Not far behind her in fifth in the Javelin was Rebecca McLean with a career-best throw of 120' 8.75".

Select Corban track & field athletes will head south next weekend to compete at the Raider Invitational at Southern Oregon University. Competition will take place on Friday and Saturday.
