School Record Falls at Saints Open for Corban Track & Field Teams

GRESHAM, Ore. – While continuing to improve on early-season marks and setting a school record in the process, the Corban University men's and women's track & field teams shined at the Saints Open on Saturday.

RESULTS

"Our team went to Mt. hood CC today minus 13 men and 13 women that couldn't compete because of illness, injuries, and other conflicts," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "In spite of the fact we were shorthanded, we were able to take home eight firsts and place high in several events."

Nate Martin flew through the 110m Hurdles, clocking an NAIA 'B' standard and school record time of 14.95 seconds, winning the event at the meet. Martin also clocked a conference-qualifying mark in the 100 Meters, taking third overall with a time of 11.19 seconds.

"The highlight of the day on the men's side was a school record and B National qualifying performance by Nathan Martin in the 110m Hurdles," said Berney. "Morgan Strunk and Michael Schmidt also had great efforts and first-place showings in the Javelin and Pole Vault."

In the 400m Hurdles, Stephen Anderson uncorked a conference-qualifying time, crossing the finish line in second place at 58.69 seconds.

Over in the field events, Michael Schmidt showed well in the Pole Vault, clearing a conference-qualifying mark of 13' 5" to win the event. In addition, he took third place in the Javelin with a toss of 122' 2".

Winning the Javelin event was Corban's Morgan Strunk with a distance of 169' 0" – a conference qualifying mark.

"On the ladies side, Kristi Childers won both the 100 Meters and the 400m Hurdles with a PR," said Berney. "Lindsay Asplund set a new PR in the 400 Meters with a first-place finish, and our three freshman came through with firsts. Mackenzie Wilson in the 200 Meters, Sabrina Reifschneider in the 100m Hurdles, and Lauren Woodworth in the Pole Vault. On the distance side, Annabel Guptill won the 5k with a great finish."

Kristi Childers impressed in the 100 Meters, clocking a conference-qualifying mark of 13.10 seconds to win the event on Saturday. In the 200 Meters, Mackenzie Wilson registered a winning time of 26.57 seconds, qualifying for the conference meet.

Lindsay Asplund uncorked a winning time in the 400 Meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 59.30 seconds – a conference qualifying mark. Leah McClain was not far behind in second place, also registering a conference-qualifying time of 1:01.50.

The 5000 Meters saw Corban nab the top-three spots, and it was Annabel Guptill who captured the top spot with a winning time of 19:41.22. Brooklyn Baker finished in second with a mark of 19:49.43, and Rebecca Sidlo crossed right behind Baker with a time of 19:49.44.

In the 100m Hurdles, Sabrina Reifschneider registered a conference-qualifying time of 15.95 seconds, winning the event for the Warriors, while in the 400m Hurdles, Childers recorded a conference-qualifying time of 1:05.41, winning the event by three seconds.

In the Pole Vault, Lauren Woodworth cleared a winning height and conference-qualifying mark of 8' 11.5".

Jordan Woodvine once again impressed for the Navy and Gold, as she tossed a couple of long throws in both the Shot Put (37' 3.75") and the Hammer Throw (116' 2"), taking second and third, respectively. Both were conference-qualifying distances.

Rounding out the throwing events, Sarah Falardeau and Rebecca McLean unleashed conference-qualifying throws of 112' 10" and 111' 7" in the Javelin, taking third and fourth, respectively.

Corban returns to the track this week for multiple events over at Willamette. Multi-event athletes will compete on Tuesday-Wednesday, while the Warriors will compete in full on Thursday in the Willamette Dual Meet.
