Warrior Track & Field Shines at Willamette Dual Meet as School Records Topple

SALEM, Ore. – While competing with limited numbers on both sides, the Corban University men's and women's track & field teams performed very well at the Willamette Dual Meet on Thursday, with the women capturing the victory and the men falling just short as a team. On the day for the Navy and Gold, events were won and records were set in the battle for Salem.

RESULTS

Nate Martin continued to prove he's one of the best sprinters the Warriors have ever seen in men's track & field. While blowing away the field in the 100 Meters, he clocked a school-record time of 10.80 seconds, winning by a significant margin.

Also winning for the Warrior men was Jett Sobotta, who just came off the basketball court and showed off the type of potential he has, winning the High Jump with a clearing height of 5' 11.50". In the Discus, Jason Bracken uncorked a first-place throw of 149' 4", while Corban's Kenny Purnell took third with a toss of 136' 5.75".

In the 1500 Meters, Ruben Salvador-Benevides clocked a winning time of 4:15.02, just pulling out the narrow win at the line.

On the women's side, Jordan Woodvine launched a throw of 41' 11.25" in the Shot Put, setting a new school record in the event, registering the distance on her final throw.

In the sprints, rookie Mackenzie Wilson shined with winning times in the 100 Meters (12.70) and the 200 Meters (26.33), blowing past the competition on the chilly day.

In the 4x100 Relay, the foursome of Wilson, Selina Newingham, Leah McClain, and Kristi Childers combined for the second-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in a winning time of 48.95 seconds, beating the Bearcats by over a second in the event.

On Tuesday/Wednesday, Sarah Falardeau won the Heptathlon in her first-ever time competiting in the seven-event competition, scoring 3,478 points in the triumph.

"It was a cold, wet, and windy meet, but our team came through with some outstanding performances," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. At the top of the list was a school record by Nathan Martin in the 100 Meters and Jordan Woodvine's record in the Shot Put. Mackenzie Wilson also won the 100 Meters and 200 Meters, and our women's 4x100 Relay won with a 48.95 seconds, marking the second-fastest relay time we've ever run. In the field events, Jason Bracken came through with a big win in the Discus, and Jett Sobotta won the High Jump after just returning to the track from basketball. One other outstanding effort to note was Stephen Anderson's anchor leg in the 4x400 Relay, where he ran even with Willamette until the last 200 Meters and finished with an unbelievable kick to help win the race."

Corban returns to the track in a week for the Willamette Invite on Saturday, March 24.
