The Warrior women's 4x100m Relay squad, consisting of MacKenzie Wilson, Selina Newingham, Leah McClain, and Kristi Childers, had been working towards an NAIA 'A' standard all year long, but had yet to reach that mark. On Friday, the Warriors executed to near perfection, clocking a time of 47.30 seconds, taking second place at the meet with the NAIA 'A' standard mark, automatically qualifying for nationals.
Other highlights from the day for the Corban women included a pair of third-place podium showings for Jordan Woodvine in the Shot Put and Kendra Murphy in the High Jump. Woodvine uncorked a toss of 39' 8.77" for the bronze medal, while Murphy cleared a height of 5' 1" in her bronze-medal high jump performance.
On the men's side, Nathan Martin and Jason Bracken both recorded second-place showings for the Warriors in the 110m Hurdles and High Jump, respectively. In addition, Michael Schmidt scored big points for the Navy and Gold in both of those events, taking fourth in each of them.
Martin clocked a time of 14.95 seconds in the 110m Hurdles, while Schmidt finished in a time of 15.54 seconds. In the High Jump, Bracken cleared a height of 6' 3.5" for the silver medal, while Schmidt jumped over a height of 6' 1.6".
By the end of day one, both Warrior teams sat in fourth place overall, with the women at 55.5 points, and the men at 51 points. Action begins on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the awards ceremony following the conclusion of all of Saturday's events.
