Top 10 Stories of the Year --- #7: Resurging Corban Volleyball Makes Big Leap

SALEM, Ore. – Thanks to the best record since 2004 and a berth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament for the first time since 2008, the Corban Volleyball team's resurgent 2015 season came into the Top 10 Stories of the Year at No. 7.

Corban head coach Kim McLain, in her first year at the helm, led the Warriors to a 14-13 overall record, marking the second-highest winning percentage ever for a Warrior Volleyball coach. In addition, the 14 wins in 2015 marked the most victories in a season since 2004, and with a 12-8 record in CCC action, the 12 wins were the most in conference play for Corban since 2003 and the second-most all time in program history.

McLain and the Warriors started the year slow with many new young players, but once the season got rolling, the wins started coming. Finishing strong during the 2015 regular season, Corban finished in fifth place in the final CCC standings, qualifying the team for the CCC Tournament for the first time since 2008. One of the highlights of the regular season came when Corban defeated the College of Idaho in mid-September, marking the first time the team had defeated the Yotes in 11 years.

Leading the way all year long was Amber Parker, as she led the CCC and NAIA in kills/set in 2015, garnering First-Team All-CCC plaudits and NAIA All-America honors as well. On top of Parker's dominance as an outside hitter, Haley Wells and Madison McLain served as key playmakers for the Navy and Gold as well, with Wells doing the dirty work defensively, and McLain providing the assists to the left and to the right. For their efforts, Wells was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Year, while McLain was tabbed the CCC Freshman of the Year.

With the aforementioned trio returning in 2016, and a number of outstanding recruits added to the squad, the Warriors are looking to make a push into the top-three in the conference while also striving to push their campaign as far as they possibly can into the postseason. Whatever is to come for Warrior Volleyball, there is no doubt that after the resurgent 2015 season, expectations and goals will be higher than ever in 2016, and with Kim McLain at the helm, exciting times are ahead for the Navy and Gold.
