CANBY, Ore. – With less than a month remaining before the 2017 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships, the Corban University track & field teams competed at the Clackamas Invite on Saturday evening, registering quality marks while taking on many of the best from around the northwest.
RESULTS
"On the ladies side, Amy Jo ran a great race to win the 5k, while Rebecca McLean performed well in the Javelin and Crystal Lynch in the Discus and Shot Put was great," said Corban head coach Norm Berney. "Our women's 4x400 Relay also finished strong to win the race, while our Warrior men's 4x100 Relay won their race and look ready to run a very competitive race at conference. Overall, it was a great meet with teams competing from OSU, UP, WOU, EOU, Concordia, Warner Pacific, Multnomah, and several community colleges, and this meet will prepare us for the conference championships in Ashland in the second week of May."
In that exciting 5k on the women's side, Amy Jo Murphy used a strong finish to edge her counterpart, winning with a career-best time of 18:16.46, defeating the next-closer race by nearly three seconds. Also on the track, Kristi Childers placed fourth overall in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:07.27, while the Warrior 4x400 Relay with Childers, Rachel Harland, Kristina Yzaguirre, and Shelby Jenkins captured top honors in the long relay with a time of 4:14.46, blowing away the competition by over 16 seconds.
In the Javelin, rookie Rebecca McLean uncorked a career-best throw of 127' 9" for a conference-qualifying mark, finishing in fifth overall. Also in the throws, Crystal Lynch took second overall in the Discus (134' 10") and third overall in the Shot Put (38' 1.25").
On the men's side, the Warrior 4x100 Relay crossed the finish line in a first-place and season-best time of 42.40 seconds. The combination of Timothy Yee, Christian Bohuslavizki, Nathan Martin, and Kemar Prince combined for the winning time, continuing to hit full stride as the Warriors approach the CCC Championships.
In the 5k for the Corban men, Zach Steele clocked a fourth-place time of 15:25.47, while in the 100 Meters, Kemar Prince placed third with a mark of 11.23 seconds. Shining in the jumps, Yee jumped a distance of 42' 4" in the Triple Jump, tying for fourth overall.
