Nathan Ohta

Nathan Ohta became the head coach of the Warrior softball program at Corban University in 2008 after serving as assistant coach in 2007. Prior to that, he coached the club softball team for two seasons at then-Western Baptist College.

In 2013, Nathan set the bar higher than any other coach in program history, helping lead Corban to a program-record 43 wins against 15 losses. There were two significant firsts for Warriors softball: a Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title, and a berth in the NAIA national postseason tournament.

The record-setting 2013 season came on the heels of a then school-record 31-16 record in 2012. Under Nathan's direction the Warriors finished in a two-way tie for second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season standings and advanced to their third straight conference tournament championship series before falling to regular season champions Oregon Tech.

In his fourth season, Nathan helped Corban to only its second winning season in program history registering a then-school record 25 win and posting a then-program-best winning percentage of .595 (25-17). For the second straight season, Nathan guided the Warriors to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship Series before falling to eventual national champions Oregon Tech.

In 2010, Nathan led the Warriors to their first winning season in program history (24-23) and third most wins ever. Nathan also guided Corban within one win of advancing to the NAIA Softball National Championship Tournament and a runner-up finish in the final Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.

During his second season as head coach of the Warriors, Nathan continued to take his team to new heights winning 19 games and finished fifth in the conference standings.

In his inaugural season as a collegiate head coach, Nathan turned around a program that had combined for 13 wins over the past two seasons. In just one year at the helm, Nathan helped lead the Warriors to a 15-22 win-loss record that included an 11-13 record in conference play. Corban’s conference record was good enough for a tie for fourth place overall, which was only two games out of a berth in the NAIA Region I tournament.

Nathan, a 2002 Corban graduate, stepped in to replace former head coach Michelle Hext, who resigned following one season with the Warriors in 2006. Nathan joined Hext as her top assistant in the spring, and the two helped re-invigorate the softball program. Corban improved its overall and conference records in 2007, while beating NCAA Division II Northwest Nazarene and every NAIA conference opponent except one.

As the leader of the then-Western Baptist club team, Nathan handled all administrative, recruiting, and coaching duties during the program's club phase, helping the college advance Warrior softball to an official intercollegiate sport in 2004.

"Corban has always been a special place to me, and I'm excited to be able to coach a sport I love at a school I love," said Ohta.

Nathan and his wife, Michele, were married in June of 2010 and have a son, Caleb, who was born in July 2013. The family resides in Salem.
