Corban Men's Soccer Off to Best Start in Program History - Shuts Down Saints, 2-0

HELENA, MONT. - The Corban University men's soccer team made history on Sunday, improving its record to 7-0 overall for the first time ever. The Warriors battled against the Carroll College Saints, and thanks to a pair of second-half goals, the Navy and Gold came out on top in a 2-0 victory.

For Corban, not only is the team 7-0 to start the season for the first time ever, but the Warriors still have yet to allow a goal, maintaining their perfect goals-against-average. They are the only team in the NAIA to still have not allowed a goal in 2015.

"I enjoyed seeing players contribute in new and more significant ways from off the bench today," said head coach Aaron Lewis. "In our conference, those contributions are going to be essential moving forward."

In the first half, Corban sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Farr (Turner, Ore.) showed just how valuable he is to the Warriors, making saves and snatching a number of balls out of mid-air to keep Carroll off the board. Late in the first half, Warrior junior forward Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica) got in behind the Saints' defense, forcing Carroll to foul him from behind in the box to draw the penalty-kick opportunity. Unfortunately for the Warriors, that penalty kick was saved, and the two sides went into halftime level, 0-0.

In the second half, Dinnall served as the creator by getting around the Carroll defense and played a cross on the ground to junior forward Bobby Hutchin (Vancouver, Wash.) at the back post. Hutchin made no mistake, finishing with a one-time shot to put the visitors up 1-0 in the 51st minute.

Both teams registered a few more close chances the remainder of the way, with Carroll's primary opportunities coming off of free kicks and long throw-ins, but once again, Farr came up big time in the back for Corban, grabbing just about every ball out of mid air, not allowing the Saints to get any quality looks on goal.

Dinnall sealed the deal in the 90th minute for Corban, winning a 50-50 challenge with a Carroll defender before blasting a rocket past the Saints' goalkeeper, doubling the Warriors' lead and keeping Corban perfect on the season.

"I was proud of the team recognizing what was available during different stretches of the game," said Lewis.

Farr finished the contest with 3 saves, earning his sixth shutout of the year.

Corban (7-0, 2-0 CCC) returns to action on Friday when it hosts Southern Oregon University at Warrior Field. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. If you can't make it to the game, be sure to follow the action via live stats and the live video broadcast.
