Corban Dominates, Wins 3-0 over GFU in Non-Conference Men's Soccer Match

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Corban University men's soccer team used two first-half goals and one second-half score to defeat George Fox University in dominating fashion on Tuesday night on the road, winning 3-0 and remaining perfect on the year. The game between the Warriors and the Bruins was the first time the two teams had met since 2008 in a match where Corban was the victor, 1-0.

"We enjoyed some time on the ball tonight and there were possessions that we effectively moved them around creating space to attack," said head coach Aaron Lewis. "We will focus on cleaning up our offensive execution and improving our transition opportunities moving into the weekend."

In the first stanza, the Warriors created some quality opportunities early on, but it was junior forward Bobby Hutchin (Vancouver, Wash.) who opened the scoring on the evening when he got on the end of a beautifully-weighted through ball from junior forward Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica), and Hutchin banged his right-footed shot off the left post and into the goal in the 28th minute. For Hutchin, it was his first goal of the year to open his 2015 account.

In the 39th minute of play, the Bruins' defense played a poor back-pass to the goalie, and Dinnall read it perfectly, pouncing on the mistake and got to the ball at the same time as the goalkeeper, deflecting the ball into the back of the net on the 50/50 challenge to double Corban's advantage.

In the second stanza, it was once again Dinnall who created the opportunity, as in the 74th minute of play, he went at a George Fox defender in the box, used a nice piece of skill to draw a penalty-kick, and then Dinnall buried his opportunity past the goalkeeper to seal the triumph for the Navy and Gold.

For the game, Corban held the 26-9 shots advantage, forcing the Bruin goalkeeper into seven saves on the night via 10 shots on goal. Junior midfielder Nathaniel Cheney (Clarkston, Wash.) led the team with eight shots on the evening, while Dinnall racked up five.

Following the contest, Hutchin talked about the team's win in a post-game interview:

Defensively, the back line for the Warriors was dominant, shutting down the Bruin attack all night long. In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Farr (Turner, Ore.) registered one save in his third shutout of the 2015 campaign.

Corban (4-0) returns to the pitch on Saturday to host Simpson University (Calif.) at Warrior Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. If you can't make it to the match, be sure to follow along via live stats and live video.
