KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – After a tough and well-played match, the No.11 Corban University men's soccer team fell to Oregon Institute of Technology for their first loss of the season. After tying the game in the 69th minute, the Warriors gave up the final game-winning goal in the 80th minute, falling to the Owls with a score of 2-1.
"It was a dissapointing result for us today, as I think we could have been better in stretches during the match," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "With that said, I'm pleased with the responses and am confident our group will use this to be better moving forward."
The Owls opened up the scoring early, taking the 1-0 lead with a shot from Lodewijk Bloemzaad. For the rest of the half, the two teams clashed, with no one else finding the back of the net for a halftime score of 1-0. Oregon Tech outshot the Warriors 11-5 in the first half.
Corban found the game-tying goal in the 69th minute from junior midfielder Rolando Velazquez, who found the back of the net after an assist from sophomore forward Nic Farr. However, the celebration didn't last long, after Oregon Tech came back with the game-winning goal in the 80th minute, with Leonardo Alonzo flipping the ball into the upper right corner past Corban goalkeeper Jordan Farr.
Oregon Tech outshot Corban 19-10 on the match, having seven shots-on-goal to the Warriors four shots-on-goal.
Corban (8-1-0, 3-1-0 CCC) look to bounce back in their next match, facing Northwest Christian University (5-3-1, 1-2-1 CCC) back home on Saturday, October 1st. Kick-off is set for 12 p.m. in Salem, Ore.
