No. 6 Corban Men’s Soccer Completes Comeback in 3-1 Triumph over Yotes

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 6-ranked Corban University men's soccer team fell behind early on Saturday afternoon, but the Warriors stormed back with three unanswered goals en route to defeating the College of Idaho, 3-1. The win gives the Warriors the weekend split after suffering their first loss of the season on Friday against Rocky Mountain.

"Today we found ourselves needing to use depth more than any game thus far this year," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We had several guys fill important roles for us today during important stretches."

The Yotes took advantage of a mistake early by the Warriors, as after a giveaway in the midfield, C of I went down the pitch and Daniel Camargo cut inside and blasted a left-footed shot into the lower-left corner, putting the visitors up 1-0.

The Warriors responded with a good sense of urgency on the other end of the field, as Timur Zhividze fired off a pair of shots that were headed for the back of the net, and they would have been goals if not for a couple of fantastic saves from C of I's Grant Billings.

The Warriors finally found the breakthrough and tied the contest when Zhividze had a shot saved off the line, and Armando Lopez followed it up and blasted a right-footed shot into the net just seconds before the half ended, taking the contest into the break tied at 1-1.

In the second half, Corban pushed in front when Alex Segovia received a cross from Zhividze, and after touching the ball into the air, Segovia rose above the defense and headed the ball into the goal, making it 2-1 in Corban's favor.

Zhividze then sealed the deal in the 75th minute of play, as after Miguel Naves played a nifty back-heel pass to Zhividze, he one-timed a left-footed curler into the left-side netting, sealing the victory for the Warriors.

Corban could have scored a lot more had it not been for Billings in goal for the Yotes, as he finished the match with 12 saves. Corban racked up 32 shots to just 14 for C of I. The Warriors also totaled six corner kicks to just one for the Yotes.

Corban (11-1-2) returns to the pitch next weekend when it plays its final two regular-season home matches on Friday and Saturday. Friday's match vs. Multnomah is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start, and then Saturday's Senior Night contest is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff vs. Walla Walla.
