No. 5 Warrior Men’s Soccer Draws with Beacons in Scoreless CCC Match

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University men's soccer team created a number of chances in the second half of Saturday's Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) match on the road at Northwest Christian University, but the Warriors and Beacons finished the double-overtime contest in a scoreless stalemate, 0-0.

"Today we didn't find the final touch," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis, "but I was proud of the way we stayed committed to playing both sides of the ball and collecting another clean sheet."

In the first half, the Warriors did not create a whole lot offensively, but in the second half, that changed. Corban was on the offensive for almost the entirety of the second stanza, racking up 12 shots to just three for NCU, but NCU's goalkeeper, Yayo Olvera made a number of crucial stops, keeping the Warriors from going in front.

With the match still scoreless at the end of regulation, Corban and NCU headed to overtime, and with neither side budging after two scoreless overtime periods, the match ended in the scoreless draw.

Corban outshot NCU on the night, 16-9. Timur Zhividze racked up eight shots, with five being on goal for the Warriors, while Rolando Velazquez notched three shots for the Navy and Gold in the tie.

Defensively, Corban was solid all match long, and between the pipes, Jordan Farr recorded four important saves in the shutout.

Corban (10-0-2, 6-0-1 CCC) returns home next weekend for a pair of massive CCC matches, with No. 10-ranked Rocky Mountain College coming to town on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday, College of Idaho takes on the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the CFC Soccer Complex.
