WILSONVILLE, Ore. – Building on its strong start to the 2017 campaign, the Corban University softball team registered a pair of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) wins on Saturday over the University of British Columbia, securing the conference series victory. After coming from behind to win game one, 3-2, the Warriors dominated game two in five innings, 8-0.

"I think the team did a good job of learning from the first game and making quick adjustments today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "They did a great job of finding ways to get into scoring position and hit each other in during the second game. Our defense was a lot more solid today which was great to see."
The Thunderbirds jumped in front in the first inning of the opener on Saturday, taking advantage of a Warrior throwing error to score an unearned run.
Corban responded in the bottom half of the frame, however, as Jessie Isham and Iris Rodriguez ripped back-to-back doubles in the gap, tying the contest at 1-1.
UBC once again took the lead in the fourth inning when Paige Harbord recorded an RBI single to the left side, pushing the Thunderbirds in front by a run.
Immediately the Warriors provided another response in the bottom half of the fourth, as with Rodriguez on at first base, Raimee Sluder went the opposite way and blasted a long ball over the right-field fence to give the Warriors their first lead of the contest at 3-2.
From that point on, Sabrina Boyd shut the door on UBC, finishing off the final three innings to secure the key one-run CCC-opening victory. In game one, both Rodriguez and Isham finished with two hits apiece.
Game two saw Allie Mendez dominate in the circle from start to finish, as she tossed a five-inning complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out five in her fifth victory of the year.
At the dish, Corban rookie Sam Woodley ripped a two-RBI double in the second to score Rodriguez and Sluder and give the Warriors the early lead. In the third, Sluder added an RBI double to left field, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
Corban then made it 8-0 in the fourth inning on a number of hits while also taking advantage on the base paths of a pair of Thunderbird mistakes. The two key RBI base knocks in the frame came from Taylor Eilders and Maddy Melton.
In the fifth, Mendez then finished the Thunderbirds off, locking down the five-inning CCC shutout triumph.
At the plate, Melton and Sluder both finished with a pair of hits, while Woodley recorded a team-best two RBI.
The entire series is being played at Wilsonville High School because UBC's field was covered in snow, and Corban's field was unplayable due to the heavy rain over the course of the past weeks.
Corban (12-1, 2-0 CCC) returns to the diamond tomorrow at Wilsonville High School when the Warriors and Thunderbirds are scheduled to square off twice more, with Sunday's first game at 11 a.m. being a CCC contest, and the second being a non-conference contest. Live stats will be available.
