No. 5 Corban Men’s Soccer Completes Comeback Win in 3-2 Thriller at Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 5-ranked Corban University men's soccer team showed that it can win in a variety of ways, and on Saturday against the University of Providence (formerly University of Great Falls), the Warriors had to come from behind in the second half, downing the Argos, 3-2. The victory marks Corban's fourth-straight Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) road triumph during the 2017 campaign.

"This team solidified their willingness to solve challenges as a group," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "One of the things I have really come to appreciate in our players is their no excuse, overcome mentality."

The match actually started brilliantly for the Navy and Gold, as in the second minute of play, Jordan Moss blasted a shot into the back of the net from 20 yards out, giving the Warriors the early advantage.

Providence would respond, however, with Christoffer Bisbo scoring two goals later in the first half for the Argos, including one just before the halftime whistle to give the home side the lead at the break.

Making some halftime adjustments, however, Corban came out of the gates firing, and Timur Zhividze almost tied the match right away, but his shot clanked off the post, keeping Corban behind by a goal.

In the 54th minute, Zhividze had another opportunity, this time blasting a rocket of a free kick that was saved off the post and right into the path of Corban's Igor Hubenya, and Hubenya made no mistake, smashing his shot into the back of the net to bring the match level at 2-2.

Zhividze then finally found the strike he was looking for in the 74th minute of play, firing it into the top-left corner from 18 yards out to give the Warriors the lead. It was a lead Corban would not relinquish.

Despite being scored on twice, Jordan Farr came up with four crucial saves to help preserve the win.

Corban (8-0-1, 4-0-0 CCC) returns home next weekend when it hosts Oregon Tech on Friday and Southern Oregon on Saturday at the CFC Soccer Complex.
