No. 6 Corban Men’s Soccer Draws with (RV) Westmont, 0-0

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 6-ranked Corban University men's soccer team battled for 110 minutes on Friday afternoon with (RV) Westmont College, and despite a number of quality chances on both ends, the match ended in a scoreless draw.

"Today's match was a great early-season test for us," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "We respect the Westmont program and their team did a good job of being difficult to break down throughout the match today. We'll take away several positives from our defensive performance, and we'll keep looking to increase our tempo and runs off the ball in our possession game on Sunday."

In the first 45 minutes, it was a defensive battle, and Jordan Farr came up with a big-time diving save off of a Westmont free kick, denying the visitors from going in front.

In the second 45 minutes, both sides threatened on multiple occasions, and it was Nic Farr who almost put Corban in front late, but his shot from six yards out went just over the top, keeping the match scoreless. Iliya Zhividze then made a long run down the left side of the field, combining with his brother Timur Zhividze, and Zhividze blasted a shot on goal, but Westmont's Lalo Delgado made an incredible diving save, sending the match to overtime.

Both sides created some chances in the two overtime periods, but neither found the breakthrough, resulting in the scoreless affair.

Westmont edged Corban in the shots' department on the evening, 16-14, while Corban won the corner-kick battle, 8-3. Defensively for Corban, Jordan Farr finished the night with eight saves in his second-straight shutout.

Corban (3-0-1) returns to the pitch on Sunday when it travels to take on Linfield College on the road. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
