WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The No. 10-ranked Corban University men's soccer team absolutely routed the Walla Walla University Wolves on Sunday afternoon on the road, scoring nine goals while securing a shutout victory. In the 9-0 triumph, seven different players scored at least one goal for the Warriors.
"I appreciated our unselfish play today and our commitment to keep a clean sheet," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "After a couple of long weeks on the road, we are looking forward very much to being back in Salem next weekend!"
Corban got the ball rolling in the right direction in the ninth minute of play when Kohl Hurtado beat a couple of defenders and buried a shot to make it 1-0. Armando Lopez doubled Corban's advantage 11 minutes later, and then Hurtado finished another opportunity to put the Warriors well on their way to a road Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory.
Levan Zhividze dribbled through the Wolves' defense in the 26th minute and poked his shot past the goalkeeper to make it 4-0 before the halftime break.
In the second half, Robin Terry extended the lead to five goals with his shot in the 51st minute of action, while Alex Segovia made it 6-0 in the 61st minute.
Travez Whyte scored a beautiful volley in the 74th to put the Warriors in front even further, and Carlos Llamosa blasted one home in the 83rd to make it 8-0.
Whyte capped off Corban's highest-scoring match of the year with his second goal of the day in the 88th minute of play, lifting the Warriors to the 9-0 win.
Corban (12-2-1, 9-1-1 CCC) returns home for its final two regular-season contests on Friday and Saturday when it hosts Multnomah University and Warner Pacific University. Kickoff both days at the CFC Soccer Complex is slated for 4:30 p.m.
