No. 17 Corban Men’s Soccer Edges Beacons in 3-1 Triumph

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 17-ranked Corban University men's soccer team fell behind early on Saturday night against Northwest Christian University, but the Warriors responded with three unanswered goals, resulting in a 3-1 victory against the Beacons.

"We never like conceding an early goal, but I was pleased with how our team kept their emotions in check, continued to solve NCU's shape thoughtfully, and ultimately imposed their will," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "There continues to be several areas we can be better in, but this team is humble and possesses the work rate to improve much more heading down the stretch."

Kaleb Miles scored a header off of a corner kick for NCU in the 25th minute of play, assisted by Alex Abalan.

Corban, playing in its possession-style offense, found the tying goal about 10 minutes later when Igor Hubenya played the perfect pass over the top to the onrushing Robin Terry, and after taking a touch past the defender, Terry blasted his shot into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

In the second half, Travez Whyte scored in the 69th minute of play off of a whipped in cross from Kohl Hurtado. Whyte one-timed his shot from about 15 yards out to put the Warriors up, 2-1.

Alex Segovia then supplied the dagger in the 80th minute of play, scoring a glancing header off the cross from Alan Cruz Ramirez. Watch video of the goal here:

The Warriors finished with 15 shots to just 14 for the Beacons, while Corban also had seven corner kicks to three for NCU.

Jordan Salim played well in goal for Corban, coming up with five saves, including one critical one-on-one save when the match was still tied at 1-1.

For NCU, Julian Hernandez also played well, making five saves, including a pair of one-on-one saves against the Warriors.

Corban (9-1-1, 6-0-1 CCC) returns to action next weekend for a crucial matchup with No. 13-ranked Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) on the road. Kickoff in Billings is slated for 3:30 p.m. MT.
