Rybar and Buhrkuhl Lead Corban Softball to 6-3 Win over Oregon Tech

ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 2-seeded Corban University softball team flexed its muscles on day one of the 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament, and despite falling behind early, the Warriors stormed back and defeated the No. 3-seeded Oregon Tech Owls, 6-3. "I am so proud of the total team win today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "Every kid contributed in the win and it is fun watching them make adjustments at the plate and play for each other. Both pitchers combined for a great outing today."

The winner of Saturday's contest between SOU and Corban will advance to the CCC Tournament Championship contest. LIVE STATS and LIVE VIDEO will both be available for Saturday's showdown.

On Friday, the Owls struck first in the bottom half of the first frame with an RBI double, but in the second, Megan Rybar immediately leveled the contest at 1-1 with a solo shot over the outfield wall.

In the third frame, Kaylee Buhrkuhl blasted a triple to right field, scoring Maddy Melton and Ashlyn Englehorn to make it a 3-1 Warrior lead.

It was a 5-1 advantage in the fourth when the Owls (36-12) pulled a couple back thanks to a home run, but Buhrkuhl stepped back up in the fifth and launched a solo home run of her own over the center field fence, giving Corban a three-run lead.

Coming on in relief for the Warriors (35-11) out of the bullpen was Alyssa Vidal, as she came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth. She recorded the third out of the inning, and then went 1-2-3 in both the sixth and seventh frames to secure the triumph and the save.

Boyd earned the win, going 4.2 innings while allowing four hits and three runs, striking out four along the way. Buhrkuhl and Rybar both went 2-for-3, and Buhrkuhl finished with a team-best three RBI, while Rybar led the team with two runs scored.

Oregon Tech, with the loss, moves to the loser's bracket and will face off against Eastern Oregon University at 11:30 a.m. in an elimination contest.
