No. 17 Corban Softball Closes Regular-Season with Sweep of British Columbia

SURREY. B.C. – Playing in the final two games of the 2019 regular-season, the No. 17-ranked Corban University softball team finished with a bang, downing the University of British Columbia by final scores of 10-7 and 8-2 to seal the four-game sweep.

"I am very proud of our team for our fight and resilience today," said head coach Abigail Farler. "Our offense was incredible, coming up with timely hits all day long. Our baserunning was outstanding, and we got eight great innings of pitching from Ally [Crakes]. We are excited to go into postseason play and get all aspects of the game clicking together."

In many ways, game one of today's action mirrored the series opener yesterday, as both teams pounded out double-digit hit totals in the makings of an offensive battle. British Columbia struck for two in the first and the second, holding a 4-3 lead after three complete.

Corban captured the advantage for the first time in the top half of the fourth, plating a trio of runs on a bases-loaded walk to Jessie Isham, a Sam Woodley sac fly, and a Mahina Chong run-scoring single. A Thunderbird defensive blunder would help the Navy and Gold extend the lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth, but British Columbia would end up knotting the contest with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Entering the seventh knotted up at seven apiece, Corban would plate three runs in the final frame. Madison Wyllie ignited the rally with a single to right, and Tatum Prechtel would bring her home with an RBI triple. Isham immediately followed that up with a double, and would later come home to score on a wild pitch.

Ally Crakes, who earned the save in game one, tossed a complete game in game two, allowing just two Thunderbird runs (one earned) while striking out six.

In support of the southpaw, the Warrior offense scored in every inning except the first, notching the squad's fifth-straight game with at least 10 hits.

Every member of the Corban starting nine except one collected a base hit in the triumph, with Woodley going 2-for-3 (two runs) and Chong going 2-for-4 (one run, one RBI) to lead the way. Megan Rybar and Isham each registered a pair of RBIs in the 8-2 victory.

The Warriors stole 16 bases between the two contests, pushing their season tally to a conference-best 114. The program's previous all-time record in the category was 98 (2016).

Accounting for today's results, Corban (34-12, 19-8 CCC) finishes the 2019 regular-season campaign with 19 wins in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play. Farler has reached the 19-win mark in conference play during each of her first three seasons as the Warrior head coach, something that only one Corban head coach (Nathan Ohta, 2013) had managed to accomplish prior to her arrival.

Now the Warriors will look ahead to the CCC Tournament, which will take place down in Ashland, Ore. on Friday-Sunday (May 3-5). Corban will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed after (RV) College of Idaho pulled off a rather shocking series split with No. 4-ranked Southern Oregon to clinch the No. 3 seed. The Warriors will face off with No. 5-seeded Carroll College at 9 a.m. on Friday.
