Balanced Offensive Effort Leads Corban Men’s Soccer to 5-1 Win over Rocky

SALEM, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University men's soccer team saw five different goal scorers in a 5-1 rout of Rocky Mountain College at the CFC Soccer Complex on Saturday, finishing its six-match homestand on a high note. It matches Rocky Mountain's program record for goals allowed in a game, something that had only happened three times prior to Saturday.

"We came out with a lot of energy and we were able to score because of it," said director of soccer Tim Kagey. "Rocky is always a strong side, so it was great to get the result we did."

It didn't take long for the Warriors to strike, as Nate Sherwood employed some lightning-fast footwork in just the third minute to dribble past the Bears' back line and finish with a low strike to the left-side netting.

Corban was applying relentless pressure from the onset, creating a couple of promising opportunities on headers in the next few minutes. The Warriors appeared to have a couple of goals—one via a fifth-minute header from Tristan Erispe and the other on an 11th-minute header from Evan Hoover—but both goals were called back, with the officials deeming Erispe and Hoover offside on each occasion.

With the deficit still at one, Rocky Mountain equalized in the 30th minute, when Connor O'Reilly served in a ball and connected with Niklas Kneller on a well-timed run.

Six minutes later, Corban's persistence finally paid off thanks to Alexis Luna. Matheus Giron found Luna on a breakaway, and Luna slotted a low strike past two Bear defenders to help the hometown team regain the lead.

Alvaro Arche provided some valuable cushion before the half with a brilliant strike from 35 yards out, the junior from Barcelona, Spain blasted a beautiful strike that curled just inside the right post, making it a 3-1 Corban lead in the 44th minute.

A pair of second-half goals in rapid succession helped the Warriors put the finishing touches on the blowout, with Mark Ramdeen (78') scoring for the second-straight weekend, and Robin Terry (80') finding the back of the net for the first time in 2021. Alvaro Arche assisted Ramdeen's impressive tally, and Giron sent in the ball that Terry volleyed in.

Once again, Justin Keegan was exceptional between the pipes for the Warriors, registering four saves to lead the Corban defense.

For the first time in nearly a month, the Navy and Gold (9-4, 8-2 CCC) will compete on the road next weekend, clashing with (RV) Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon University in the biggest contests of the season yet.

The battles could end up determining who the conference regular-season champion is, as the Owls are currently in first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings, and the Raiders are tied with Corban for the second-place position—just one game back of first-place OIT.
