Corban Men’s Soccer Stumbles on the Road at SOU, 2-0

ASHLAND, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University men's soccer team struggled to build offensive momentum in a 2-0 loss on the road against Southern University on Sunday.

The game was physical from the first whistle, as the two powerhouse Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) programs renewed their rivalry on a wet and rainy day in Ashland.

The hometown squad caught an early break, as a yellow card was given to Corban's Carlos Llamosa and SOU was awarded with a penalty kick in the 19th minute. Alan Gaytan converted the opportunity, giving Southern an early 1-0 advantage.

In total, 11 yellow cards were handed out in the heated battle, six of which were for the Warriors and five of which were for SOU.

The Raiders padded their lead in the 34th minute, when Zak Woolley headed a ball towards goal, and Renee Resendez leaped up and headed it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

The two-goal deficit would prove to be too much for the Navy and Gold to overcome, as SOU held Corban scoreless for just the second time this fall.

The Warriors were limited to just one shot on goal in the defeat, the squad's fewest in a match all season.

The Warriors (9-6, 8-4 CCC) have just one game left in the 2021 regular season, returning home for Senior Day against Bushnell University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Senior Ceremony will begin 30 minutes prior to gametime at the CFC Soccer Complex.
