Corban Men’s Soccer Advances to CCC Semis with 1-0 Win over C of I

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A 28th-minute goal from Mark Ramdeen was all the Corban University men's soccer team needed in a gritty 1-0 triumph over College of Idaho in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals, presented by U.S. Bank. The Warriors outlasted the Yotes in a physical contest at the Willamalane Sports Complex, booking a ticket to the CCC Semifinals tomorrow night against top-seeded Warner Pacific University.

"Today was a great start to the week," said director of soccer Tim Kagey. "We look forward to playing tomorrow."

With damp conditions and a slick pitch, the defenses took center stage from the onset. With the makings of a low-scoring affair shaping up, Ramdeen's tally in the 28th minute was valuable for the Navy and Gold to grab early momentum.

Ramdeen got isolated, and was picked out by Nate Sherwood out wide. He then cut inside and hooked a low grounder inside the near post, giving Corban a 1-0 advantage.

That would prove to be all the Warriors would need, as the Navy and Gold back line held strong for the squad's fourth shutout of the season.

Justin Keegan turned in a clutch performance between the pipes, earning the clean sheet and registering a pair of saves to anchor the Warriors' defensive efforts. One of those saves came in the 39th minute, when the Yotes' Caio Pereira blasted a shot on frame, only to be denied by a sprawling Keegan, who preserved the Warriors' advantage,

With the win, the Navy and Gold (11-6) will now look ahead to its battle with top-seeded (RV) Warner Pacific University at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the CCC Semifinals, with a trip to the CCC Championship hanging in the balance.
