No. 15 Warrior Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 15-ranked Corban University men's soccer team and Northwest University battled in a hard-fought match on Sunday afternoon. At the end of the drizzly 90 minutes of regulation and a pair of tense overtime periods, the squads ended in a 1-1 deadlock.

"We had plenty of moments to win," said head coach Tim Kagey after the match. "We will see if we can be better tomorrow."

Corban commanded possession for the bulk of the duel, particularly in the second half and two overtime periods. The Warriors couldn't find the go-ahead score, however, marking the first time in 2021 that the Navy and Gold was unable to secure a victory.

Northwest drew first blood, with Titus Nickson finishing a pass from Tyler Hopp in the 22nd minute. It is the first goal of the season surrendered by the Warriors.

With just 23 seconds left until the half, a foul in the box gave Corban an opportunity to equalize. Carlos Llamosa converted the penalty kick, evening the score at one at the midway mark.

That would be the last of the scoring for the day, however, as the Eagles endured a frantic Warrior attack to preserve the stalemate.

Corban out-shot Northwest 16-7, firing off nine shots on frame to the hometown team's five. The Navy and Gold also tallied eight corners to the Eagles' two. Feeling as if they were in control for the majority of Sunday's contest, the Warriors are hungry for another opportunity to play on Monday.

Corban (6-0-1, 4-0-1 CCC) and Northwest will be back at it tomorrow afternoon, wrapping up their two-game set with a matchup at 3:30 p.m.
