KIRKLAND, Wash. – After a disappointing result yesterday in a contest that the No. 15-ranked Corban University men's soccer team felt it should have won, the Warriors bounced back with a 2-1 victory against the Northwest University Eagles on Monday.
Matheus Giron was responsible for both of the squad's goals, notching his fourth brace of the season in the process.
"Gary [McIntosh] had his team very organized," said head coach Tim Kagey. "We made some adjustments today that created some more opportunities for us. We are excited to play at home next week."
For the second-straight day, the Eagles struck first, scoring in the 14th minute. Noah Prophet finished off a pass from Tyler Hopp, giving the Eagles an early advantage.
Yesterday marked the first time in the 2021 spring campaign that Giron was held without a goal, and the star midfielder seemed determine to prevent that from happening again on Monday.
He helped the Navy and Gold equalize with a header in the 36th minute, finishing off a brilliant cross served in by Charles Cleyton. Reminiscent of Sunday, the two squads took a 1-1 deadlock into the half, but the Warriors sought to change the narrative from yesterday's offensive dry spell in the second half.
They managed to do just that, when Giron cleaned up a scramble in the box and snuck one past Eagle keeper Brandon Karberg to put the Warriors ahead. It was his 11th goal of the season, which leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC).
The Warriors (7-0-1, 5-0-1 CCC) will return to the comforts of the CFC Soccer Complex for the squad's last home weekend of the spring, hosting Warner Pacific University on Sunday and Monday.
The Knights are off to a hot start to the season, entering this weekend's matchups with an 8-2 overall record (4-2 CCC).
