Giron’s Brace Propels No. 16 Corban Men’s Soccer to 3-0 Win over Bushnell

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Another complete effort on both sides of the ball helped lift the No. 16-ranked Corban University men's soccer team to a 3-0 triumph over Bushnell University on Monday evening.

Matheus Giron compiled a brace in the triumph under the lights, while Justin Keegan earned his third clean sheet of the young campaign.

"This was a good start to conference play," said head coach Tim Kagey. "We were solid from front to back, but we know we still have things we need to work on."

Continuing his trend of quick goals, Giron gave the Warriors an early lead on Monday, finding the back of the net just 15 minutes into the game off a ball from Noe Favila.

If that sounds familiar, it's because the 2019 NAIA All-American Honorable-Mention has scored a goal in the first 15 minutes of each of the squad's four matches this spring.

After assisting the first goal, Favila then did it again in the 80th minute, serving in a beautiful pass that found Chadwayne Johnson, who vaulted above the Beacon defenders and headed it in to give Corban some late breathing room.

Giron then added a cherry on top of the impressive win and two-game sweep, sealing his brace by rocketing a brilliant strike to the near post (87') with just a couple minutes left to play. Noah Dreves helped make it happen, delivering a well-placed cross to set up the gorgeous strike.

In net, Keegan was tested twice en route to the shutout victory, remaining unblemished through his first 270 minutes between the pipes.

The victory caps off an ideal start to CCC competition for the Navy and Gold, which hardly sees the two-game sweep of Bushnell as reason to be complacent. The Warriors will seek to continue building on the foundation being laid in the early portion of the season, fine-tuning areas of improvement in its defense of the conference crown.

On Sunday and Monday of next week, the Warriors (4-0, 2-0 CCC) will play on their home turf at the CFC Soccer Complex for the first time in 491 days. Corban will host Oregon Tech at 3 p.m. on both days.
