No. 23 Corban Men’s Soccer Team Falls to the Yotes Allowing a Pair of First Half Goals

CALDWELL, Idaho – The No.23 ranked Corban University men's soccer team fell tonight after the Yotes snatched a pair of first half goals.

Director of Soccer, Tim Kagey had this to say about tonight's game, "We didn't play with passion tonight. We will need to be better tomorrow to get a result."

In just the third minute of the game, the ball got loose on the Navy and Gold's back line, but Corban's sophomore goalkeeper, Justin Keegan, made a miraculous save to prevent the Yotes from achieving desirable early momentum.

Momentum was earned however, when a yellow card issued to Corban in the 23rd minute set up College of Idaho's Andy Sanchez for a beautiful header that sailed just past the hands of Keegan. Sanchez's first goal of the season was assisted by sophomore defender, Emil Powles. Just a few minutes later, the Yotes struck again as Kristian Quiros blasted a shot unassisted into the back of the net from 25 yards out.

The Warriors came out strong in the second half, firing three quick shots on Yote keeper, Zach Dean who deflected the first two, and was able to corral the third. Things were quiet after that, as both the Warriors and the Yotes battled in a very physical second half.

Alvaro Arche was able to apply consistent pressure to the Yote defense, and converted for the Navy and Gold in the 80th minute, making the final score 2-1 College of Idaho.

After tonight, the Warriors are 2-1 in conference play, but will be back on the pitch tomorrow evening in La Grande where they will battle the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers at 5 p.m.
