McCallion, No. 25 Warriors End Regular Season with 14th Shutout on the Year at Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore. – Yet another single-season record was broken tonight for the Corban University Men's Soccer team (15-2-1, 10-2-1), who shutout the Bushnell University Beacons (4-13-1, 2-11-0) by a 2-0 final score for their 10th conference win and concluding the regular season schedule.

"It was great win to finish conference play. We look forward to the postseason," Warriors' Head Coach Tim Kagey briefly shared this evening.

Despite multiple opportunities in the first half, the Warriors entered the halftime break with a 0-0 tie on their hands, something that has grown stale in Corban's repertoire of late. Scoring only one goal last weekend gave the Warriors a sour taste in their mouths, and they finally broke out of their mini scoring drought with two-second half scores.

The game-winning goal came off the foot of sophomore defender Edson Jimenez, who slipped past the Beacons' defensive line to smash a shot past the diving hands of Bushnell goalkeeper Diego Montes Carrera. Sophomore midfielder Alexis Luna was credited with the assist, his eighth of the season to pair with Jimenez' eighth goal, which coincidentally ties Luna for the team lead.

The second score was simultaneously intentional and unintentional, as junior midfielder Gian Gargurevich sent a corner kick into the muddled area in front of the goal, only for nobody to contact the ball, allowing it to roll into the backside corner of the net for his second goal on the year.

In just his first season as a student-athlete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), Warriors' graduate student goalkeeper Quinn McCallion (15-2-1) broke a four-year old record this evening, as tonight's victory gives McCallion 14 shutouts on the season, surpassing Southern Oregon's Wyatt Zabinski's mark of 13 set in 2018 for the conference single-season record. He did so by needing only a single save in the net for the conference record performance.

Gargurevich and sophomore midfielder Andres Labate each tallied four shots this evening, with Jimenez being the only student-athlete on the pitch to register two shots on goal.

Montes Carrera allowed two scores to the Warriors yet denied six other opportunities for the equal amount in saves. Five different Beacons logged shots in the contest, with forward Cyrus Bolosan being the only to challenge McCallion offensively with the single Bushnell shot on goal.

The No. 25 Warriors will enter the CCC Playoffs as the #3 overall seed and will battle Rocky Mountain College in the Conference Quarterfinals on Monday, November 7th at 8pm PDT in Springfield, Oregon on the Les Schwab Sports Park soccer fields.
