KIRKLAND, Wash. – Make it a pair of clean 2-0 road weekend sweeps for the Corban University Men's Soccer team (12-1, 7-1), as the Warriors blank Northwest University (5-6-2, 3-4-1) on the Eagles' Senior Day to nab their 12th win of the season.
"This is always a tough road trip, so we're grateful to collect the six points this weekend," Warriors' Head Coach Tim Kagey shared following his team's second straight 2-0 shutout.
"We now have another tough trip to focus on! We look forward to the challenges ahead," Kagey concluded.
The Warriors struck early in today's contest with the Eagles, as sophomore midfielder Alexis Luna broke the four-way tie for the team lead in scores with an 18th minute goal. A perfectly placed corner by sophomore midfielder/forward Andre Labate found it's way to the back of the penalty box, where graduate student defender Derek Neidlinger headered the ball to Luna the easy score.
Corban grew upon their lead following halftime, scoring almost seven minutes after the break thanks to a volley from senior defender Edson Jimenez, his fifth of the year.
Around the 70th minute mark, Northwest saw their best opportunity of the contest on the offensive end, as a cross into the Corban box found its way to forward Elliot Misic, who volleyed the ball towards the upper half of the net, only to be thwarted by Warriors' graduate student goalkeeper Quinn McCallion's jumping punch to send the ball out of harm's way.
McCallion (12-1-0) earns a pair of saves in his NAIA leading 12th shutout, which ties him with Corban all-time great and current MLS goalkeeper Jordan Farr for second in the Corban record book. Jimenez peppered the goalkeeper with six shots, give of which were on goal to lead all Warriors in the contest.
Eagles' goalkeeper Alexander Thiehofe stopped 11 saves this afternoon, but allowed two goals to take the loss. Misic led Northwest with a pair of shots, one of which was saved by McCallion.
Corban Men's Soccer now prepares for an extremely long road trip to Billings, Montana, with a Friday afternoon contest with Rocky Mountain College at 3:30pm MT on the radar, before traveling to Great Falls the following day to battle the Argos of the University of Providence at the same start time.
