SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The No. 25 Corban University Men's Soccer team (16-3-1) bowed out of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament earlier tonight, dropping their semifinal match to the 2-seeded Oregon Tech Owls (13-1-4) at Les Schwab Sports Park.
"Tough result tonight, we had plenty of opportunities but just couldn't find the back of the net," Warriors' Head Coach Tim Kagey shared following the semifinal result.
The Warriors and Owls entered the contest tonight looking to break a 1-1 draw from back in October, where sophomore midfielder Andres Labate scored with less than a minute remaining to force the tie with Oregon Tech.
Tonight, Corban held the advantage in almost every aspect of the game, including shots (13-9), corner kicks (6-2), and fouls (8-14), yet the Owls still came out on top with two second half goals.
The first score came following an Oregon Tech numbers advantage after a Warriors went down with a no-call injury, giving the Owls an open man in front of the goal. Midfielder Rosendo Juarez-Flores found forward Ellis Harwood all by himself in front of Warriors' graduate student goalkeeper Quinn McCallion, who slipped one past the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year for just his seventh goal allowed on the year.
The second goal came with almost ten minutes remaining in the contest, where a handball was called on Corban just over the midway line into the Warriors' territory. A deep free kick from forward Logan Miller provided forward John Sarna with a header opportunity among a plethora of bodies, slipping the ball over McCallion's head for the insurance goal.
The Owls advance to the CCC Tournament Finals with the win, and with the Warner Pacific University victory in the semifinals via penalty kicks over a thriller with Southern Oregon University, have earned the second CCC automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament by default.
The Warriors were led offensively by senior forward Reggie Reyes, who accounted for four of Corban's 13 team shots and earned a shot on goal as well.
All three of Sarna's shots were on goal against McCallion, with the first header attempt slipping past for his fourth goal of the year.
No. 25 Corban Men's Soccer now awaits the decisions to be made by the NAIA Selection Committee, where they hope to receive an At-Large bid to the NAIA National Tournament next Monday during the NAIA Men's Soccer Selection Show. The presentation is scheduled for November 14th at 10am PST, which can viewed on the NAIA YouTube Channel by clicking HERE and finding the page's Men's Soccer Selection Show premiere.
