CALDWELL, Idaho – A pair of 9-0 losses today for the Corban University Softball team sends the Warriors back to the Willamette Valley without putting a run on the board on Symms Field, as the No. 24-ranked Yotes from the College of Idaho had four complete-game efforts from their starting pitchers along with plenty of offense along the way.
"We struggled across the board in every phase today," Warriors' head coach Jeff Covalt stated. "We will spend the week in the batting cage and look to rebound next weekend in Montana."
Game 1 – #24 CI 9, Corban 0 (5 Innings)
Another first-inning home run for the Yotes (13-3, 7-2) resulted in an early lead for the designated visiting team, as first baseman Lena Zahniser launched a three-run bomb to give her team a 3-0 lead before the Warriors (1-20, 1-8) even held a bat in their hands.
While junior centerfielder Regan McDaniel was able to reach first safely to start their own offensive half of the opening inning, C of I's starting pitcher Abbey Brooks settled in to shut the Navy and Gold out for the second-straight day, allowing just one hit and a single free pass while striking out five batters.
Corban junior starter Kate Banks was charged with the loss after allowing five earned runs over 3.2 innings of work with three walks and three hits charged against her, while junior reliever Amy Jankowski pitched the remaining 2.1 frames with another two earned runs and three hits, yet struck out the side in the top of the fifth for the most consistent inning by a Corban pitcher on the day.
True freshman catcher Mckenna Hanson stretched her hitting streak into a sixth-straight game with a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth frame to represent the Warriors' only hit in game three of the series.
Zahniser went on to register a two-run double after her three-run homer to lead all hitters with five RBI and the only multi-hit performance of the contest. The top three hitters in C of I's lineup all earned a single base hit apiece and scored five of the team's nine runs.
Game 2 – #24 CI 9, Corban 0 (5 Innings)
The fourth complete-game effort by a C of I starting pitcher came in no-hit fashion, as righthander Grace Neer spun 5.0 innings with just two free passes allowed and racked up eight strikeouts over Corban batters.
An eight-run, four-walk, and four-hit outing for Warriors' true freshman Miranda Scovil resulted in her seventh loss of the 2025 season, while senior relief pitcher Sage Vanterpool allowed just one run off one hit in 2.2 innings pitched but walked four batters while hitting two more. Offensively, Banks and junior leftfielder Josie Landis drew the only two walks in the non-conference matchup against C of I's Neer.
Rightfielder Kate Crosby finished a perfect 2-for-2 from the leadoff spot of the Yotes' lineup with three runs scored and an RBI, while catcher Sydney Jund secured a game-high two RBI.
The Warriors will next be in action on Friday, March 21st after they make the ten-hour drive to Helena, Montana for their first of two doubleheaders at 2pm and 4pm MT against Carroll College (7-12, 4-5).
