No. 14 Mounties Pick Up Home Opener Doubleheader Sweep of Warriors

LA GRANDE, Ore. – A pair of ten-run performances by the host institution put the Corban University Softball team in an early hole and struggled to get their offense going against the No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers, as the Warriors dropped 10-0 and 10-1 decisions to start their conference series in run-rule fashion.

"Today was a great learning moment for this year's recruits," shared Corban head coach Jeff Covalt. "We got the opportunity to see what this conference is all about and take away as much as we can in hopes that tomorrow, we can turn some things around and build momentum back in our direction."

Game 1 – #14 EOU 10, Corban 0 (5 Innings)

A three-run bottom of the first inning set the stage early for the Mountaineers (5-3, 4-1) in their home opener after the eastern Oregon weather ruined a majority of their non-conference contests scheduled to take place at Peggy Anderson Field over the last six weeks. The Warriors (1-14, 1-4) put runners on base in multiple innings but were unable to score runs thanks to a complete game effort from EOU starting pitcher Kylie Parsons who hurled a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts and a walked batter.

Corban true freshman starting pitcher Miranda Scovil was charged with five earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, picking up a strikeout yet walking three with seven hits allowed. Junior southpaw Vanesa Quinones permitted another three runs to Eastern Oregon on three hits and three walks with her own punchout as well.

All three of the Warriors' base hits in game one came from three different batters, with junior designated player Kate Banks, freshman catcher Mckenna Hanson, and junior Leata Senio all picking up hits, Hanson's of which was a double in the second inning to represent the team's first hit of the day.

Mounties' shortstop Raygun Klippert was 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot in game one of today's doubleheader, logging three RBI and a run scored while leftfielder Hope Burke picked up the only other multi-hit outing with two hits and three runs scored.

Game 2 – #14 EOU 10, Corban 1 (5 Innings)

Eastern Oregon picked up right where they left off in game one with a five-run bottom of the first frame to create the distance they needed to cruise to another run-rule victory, yet the Navy and Gold picked up a run in the top of the fifth to avoid the shutout loss. Junior centerfielder Regan McDaniel doubled to deep right field to allow junior leftfielder Josie Landis to score from second base.

Banks started in the circle for game two and accepted her second loss of the 2025 campaign after seven earned runs crossed under her command with six walks and four hits in 2.1 innings against her statistical totals for the year. Senior relief pitcher Sage Vanterpool tossed the final 1.2 innings with two more runs allowed on three hits yet picked up a trio of strikeouts along the way to represent over half of her outs.

A pair of Mountaineers combined for the four-hit outing against Corban softball, as starter Natalie Dimitrov secured her first win of the year after a clean slate with two hits allowed across 3.1 frames and picking up three strikeouts, while reliever Camille Schmitz went 1.2 innings and allowed the earned run scored by Landis alongside two walks, two hits, and two Ks.

Senior second baseman Alexis Figueroa finished game two with a perfect 1.000 batting average, picking up two of the Warriors' four team hits. Vanterpool and McDaniel each secured base hits as well.

Mounties' centerfielder Katelynn Evans went 2-for-3 from the two-hole of the EOU lineup card, while third baseman Madison Olson nabbed three RBI on a three-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Corban and Eastern Oregon will meet back up tomorrow afternoon for 12pm and 2pm start times in games three and four to wrap up their four-game series.
