VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Corban University Softball team saw their 2025 season come to a close at Collings Field north of the US border, as the Warriors fell twice to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds via 4-2 and 8-0 final scores to conclude their spring slate in the first season under their new coaching staff.
Game 1 – British Columbia 4, Corban 2
A four-run first inning was all the Thunderbirds (22-16, 16-11) needed to clinch the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) sweep, as they held the Warriors (4-41, 2-25) to just two runs over the seven-inning affair, yet Corban was able to put runners in scoring position in multiple innings and nearly broke through the UBC defense to pick up the road victory.
True freshman starter Miranda Scovil was unable to escape the first inning and allowed all four runs to score earned off four hits and a walk before giving way to junior relief pitcher Vanesa Quinones, who was able to shutout the T-Birds over the final 5.2 innings with six hits and a walk along with two strikeouts on her season resume.
British Columbia game three starting pitcher Carleen Murray went 4.1 innings and allowed a single hit with two walks and a trio of strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle, while reliever Shae Sever finished the remainder of the contest and allowed both Corban runs on eight hits with three punchouts of her own.
Three different Warriors picked up multi-hit performances in their penultimate contest of 2025, including senior leftfielder Alicia Chavez who finished 2-for-3 as her collegiate career came to a close today. Junior first baseman Peyton Foreman and junior shortstop Leata Senio each had a pair of base knocks as well while scoring a run, with junior centerfielder Regan McDaniel, junior third baseman Isabel Carattini, and sophomore rightfielder Breanna Crosby all hitting safely as well with Crosby responsible for the two RBI.
Second baseman Kaitlyn Kim and rightfielder Marin Jorgenson continued their offensive tear through the Warriors this weekend into game three with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored apiece.
Game 2 – British Columbia 8, Corban 0 (6 Innings)
A close matchup until the bottom of the sixth inning, the Navy and Gold were within striking distance of UBC for five and a half innings, trailing 3-0 entering the sixth with a runner in scoring in every inning but one and just wasn't able to break through with timely hits before five runs enacted the run-rule victory for the T-Birds.
Junior righthander Kate Banks tossed a complete 5.0 innings of three-run, five-hit, and two-walk softball in her final outing of the year, while seniors Emmaleena Wood and Sage Vanterpool closed out their careers in relief during the bottom of the sixth frame.
A Senior Day starting nod for Thunderbirds' Riley Woodward saw the senior toss 4.2 innings with a combined shutout of the Warriors, allowing five hits with a walk and three strikeouts before Sever entered to shutdown Corban for the final 1.1 innings.
Freshman designated player Mckenna Hanson went 2-for-2 in the final contest of her first collegiate softball season, with Crosby and Foreman collecting base knocks once again while senior second baseman Alexis Figueroa and senior third baseman Madelyn Robinson picked up base hits in their final rides on the diamond.
UBC leftfielder Madison MacGillivray was a perfect 3-for-3 from the bottom of the Thunderbirds' lineup card, scoring a run while Sever, shortstop Keona Nordquist, and pinch hitter Catrina Hedin all had two RBI.
Following the first season of Coach Covalt's tenure as the head coach of the Warriors, the Corban softball program concludes the 2025 season with an overall record of 4-41 and finished 2-25 in conference contests, with seven graduating seniors who will walk the commencement stage a week from today atop Corban's campus.
