CALDWELL, Idaho – A total of eight goals were scored in today's Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) contest matchup in southwestern Idaho, where the Corban University Men's Soccer team netted a season-high three goals that fell two shy of topping The College of Idaho on the Yotes' homefield behind a 5-3 final score.
When asked to discuss tonight's result, Warriors' head coach Tim Kagey shared, "I'm pleased with our offense finding opportunities and cashing in on them, but unfortunately, we can't expect to win games when giving up five goals. We need to do a better job of limiting our opponents in their offensive half."
A four-goal first half effort from both the Warriors (2-6-0, 0-2-0) and Yotes (1-2-1, 1-2-0) resulted in the first two of four lead changes and three ties in tonight's matchup, with C of I scoring in the first 17 minutes of action before sophomore forward Zachary Milczarek cashed in on his first goal of the evening ten minutes later on a cross from senior forward Nathan Martinez.
Both the Yotes and Warriors would exchange another goal apiece in the opening half on unassisted scoring plays, with C of I midfielder Pierre Fabre and Corban freshman forward Jaycob Miller each finding the back of the net to enter the halftime break knotted in a 2-2 draw.
Just over five minutes into the second half, Yotes' midfielder Eric Hornung secured the first brace of the day with his second goal, with Fabre being credited with the assist. However, not to be outdone, Milczarek netted yet another unassisted goal for his second of the day and tying the contest once again.
In the 60th minute, forward Keidin Green collected a deep ball from defender Chris Slater to score the game-winner and later put the game to rest with yet another goal in the 84th minute, resulting in the Warriors' second-consecutive loss to begin conference play.
Milczarek led Corban with four shots to account for half of their total opportunities on the day, with Green taking a game-high nine shots for C of I. Warriors' redshirt senior goalkeeper Isaac Pureco secured three saves in the losing decision, while Yotes' goalie Matej Hron swatted two saves with three goals allowed in his first win of the season.
Tomorrow evening, the Warriors will make a pit stop in La Grande on their way back to the Willamette Valley for a 6:30pm kickoff against Eastern Oregon University (6-0-2, 3-0-0) at Community Stadium.
