Bushnell Evens Series via Day Two Sweep of Corban Softball

EUGENE, Ore. – A day two sweep at the hands of the Bushnell University Beacons resulted in a weekend split for the Corban University Softball program, but not before the Warriors secured the first two Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victories in yesterday's doubleheader to win the league series 2-1. This afternoon at Rich Schwab Field, the Beacons secured 8-5 and 10-0 victories over the Navy and Gold to avoid a sweep on their home turf and even the season series at two games apiece.

"Tough way to end a great weekend," began Corban head coach Jeff Covalt. "Overall, it didn't end the way we had hoped, but we still had the most hits, stolen bases, and runs scored in a single weekend thus far. We'll look to clean up a couple of things from some tough innings as we roll into our home series next weekend."

Game 1 | Bushnell 8, Corban 5

After securing the CCC series yesterday, the Warriors (2-16, 2-7) entered today's matchups with Bushnell (5-17, 2-7) with an opportunity to sweep the Beacons for the first time since 2023 if they could replicate their day one success both at the plate and in the pitcher's circle. However, a six-run bottom of the first consisting of the Dubs' first errors of the weekend provided the home team with just enough run support to avoid the conference sweep on their home field. The Navy and Gold struck first with a run in the first followed by a single run in the third and three more in the fifth, but the first inning damage proved to be too costly in the eventual 8-5 game three final result.

After tossing a complete game one-run effort in game two yesterday, senior starting pitcher Kate Banks was unable to escape the first inning today due to five Beacon hits and two more reaching via fielding errors, resulting in just a two-out appearance with six runs allowed, only two of which were earned by Bushnell. Senior southpaw Vanesa Quinones tossed the remaining 5.1 innings and allowed just total runs off five hits and a pair of strikeouts.

Beacons' starting pitcher Violet Richardson avenged her game one collapse in yesterday's opener by picking up a victory in game one of today's doubleheader, as she went 5.0 innings and allowed all five of Corban's runs off eight hits and two walks. Relief pitcher Sara Martin picked up her first save of the year after completing the last two innings in the circle and allowing only one baserunner to reach via walk.

Sophomore first baseman Mckenna Hanson continued her warpath through the Warriors' 2026 opponents with a 3-for-3 outing at the plate in game one today, scoring three runs and drawing a walk for a perfect on-base percentage. Senior shortstop Isabel Carattini and freshman rightfielder Irene VanDyke added two hits apiece and both logged an RBI towards their season totals.

Multi-hit performances from Beacons' rightfielder Haleigh Wambolt, third baseman Ashlyn Martin, and shortstop Shyla Mead all paced the Bushnell offense with two hits apiece. Mead and Richardson each drove in two runs.

Game 2 | Bushnell 10, Corban 0 (5 Innings)

The fourth non-conference contest of today's doubleheader started off strong for Corban when Hanson led off the game with a base knock, extending her hit-streak to a fourth-straight game and has hit safely in 14 of 18 games played thus far this season, yet she was stranded in the top of the first which setup an eventual 10-0 run-rule win for the Beacons after the Warriors were unable to score a run while keeping Bushnell from tallying ten of their own.

Sophomore starting pitcher Miranda Scovil was unable to record an out in today's non-conference finale, accepting her eighth loss of the year after allowing five runs off four walks and a bases-clearing triple. Senior reliever Amy Jankowski tossed the next 3.0 frames and allowed five more runs off eight hits and struck out two batters, while Banks pitched an inning of scoreless relief in the fourth.

Martin picked up the complete game shutout in the circle for Bushnell after earning the save in game one, allowing four hits across 5.0 innings while striking out five Warriors. Picking up base hits against Martin alongside Hanson was senior designated player Peyton Foreman, freshman leftfielder Brookelynne Morley, and junior third baseman Hannah Griffith.

Next weekend, the Warriors will host the defending national champions and No. 1-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon University (21-9, 4-5) for a four-game series, beginning on Friday, March 20th with 2/4pm doubleheader start times.
