After an accomplished collegiate running career, Brad Bates joined the Corban University Cross Country and Track & Field programs in the fall of 2009 as an assistant coach. He is now the Associate Head Coach for the Track & Field programs.
During his time at Corban, he has coached Conference Champions in the men’s and women’s 400 Meters as well as the High Jump. Moreover, Bates has been instrumental in sending numerous teams and individuals to Nationals. In 2010, he helped the women’s 4x100 Relay and both 4x400 Relay teams qualify. In 2014, he guided the men’s 4x100 and 4x400 teams to Nationals as well. Individually, Bates helped the Warriors qualify for Nationals in the High Jump and the 400 Meters on the women’s side, while on the men’s side he saw a pair of individuals earn berths to Nationals in the 400 Meters. Bates also coached the men’s 4x100 team to Nationals in 2013.
Collegiately, Bates competed at George Fox University where he ran races in a number of different events. He qualified for Nationals in the 4x400 during his sophomore season, helping the squad take 10th at 3:13.50, while he also qualified individually during his junior campaign in the 800 Meters. Bates registered lifetime personal records of 11.07 seconds in the 100 Meters, 22.32 seconds in the 200 Meters, 49.26 seconds in the 400 Meters, and 1:53.56 seconds in the 800 Meters.
Bates graduated from George Fox with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Health teaching in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science of Pre-PE Teaching in 2006 with a minor in coaching. During his collegiate career, he also acquired his Level One USATF coaching license.
Immediately following graduation, Bates became a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness for three years. During that time, he coached at Willamette Valley Christian School as the Head Middle School Track Coach.
Bates currently works for the Keizer School District in addition to his Corban coaching responsibilities. He resides in Salem with his wife Kelly and newborn baby, Henry.
