A legendary figure in the lore of Corban University Athletics, Tim Hills joined the Corban University men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant in the fall of 2020, following an incredible tenure as the program's head coach from 1969-72, 1974-83, and 1987-98. He is a member of the Warrior Hall of Fame as well as the NAIA District II Hall of Fame.
Hills joined head coach Taylor Kelly's staff in Kelly's first year at the helm of the program, serving in a part-time capacity and providing wisdom, experience, and knowledge for the Navy and Gold's student-athletes.
Perhaps the most notable name to ever coach at Corban, Hills has more wins than any other skipper in the university's history, compiling a 392-360 overall record between his three stints with the men's basketball team. He oversaw the program's NCCAA national-championship winning team in 1977, while also guiding the program to two-consecutive NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances in 1997 and 1998.
Hills won 20 or more games seven times during his coaching career that included a run of four-straight 20-win seasons from 1994-98. During this stretch, he was named NCCAA and NAIA District II Coach of the Year twice. Hills led Western Baptist to 16 NAIA and nine NCCAA playoff appearances during his tenure, while also being named Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Coach of the Year once and NCCAA regional Coach of the Year five times.Â
In addition, Hills spent six years (2005-11) as the head men's basketball coach at NCAA Division II member Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. With the Crusaders, Hills was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year at the end of his final season in 2010-11. At NNU, Hills compiled a win-loss record of 68-67.
Before leading NNU, Hills spent three seasons (2002-05) as the head men's basketball coach at nearby NCAA Division II member Western Oregon University where he led the Wolves to a win-loss record of 47-34. In his final season at WOU, Hills was named GNAC Coach of the Year and coached current NFL player Kevin Boss. For two seasons (2000-02), Hills coached the women's team at Western Oregon prior to taking over the men's program and led the Wolves to a win-loss record of 31-23.
In between his second and third stint at Western Baptist College, Hills coached four seasons (1983-87) at nearby Chemeketa Community College where he led the Storm to an amazing 95-22 overall record.
Beyond his decorated pedigree of success on the court, Hills' impact on the lives of his student-athletes is immeasurable. In the summer of 2020, Corban University finished construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art gym floor inside of the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, which would be named 'Tim Hills Court' in honor of his lasting legacy.
